I am so excited for this spring because I can start breeding/selling some chicks from my Silkies! Also, I am planning on getting some hatching eggs from Golden egg farm and hopefully some more Magnolia Silkie eggs to add to my breeding birds!:)
Also, another way to tell if he is blue or black is to pick him up and look at his down feathers. Then if you see the blue/dark blue feathers he is blue and if they are black then he is a black :)
I would say he is a dark blue because from my experience when they are that dark other breeders look at the feathers near their vent to tell if they are blue or not and from what I can see in the pictures, it looks like a blue to me. :)
Good luck with curing them! I hate lice! This past spring my poor crossbeak silkie that I got from a hatchery had lice and their eggs were all over her wings! Poor thing was skin and bones before we cured her with some cat and dog lice drops and all the rest of our chickens. It was so sad...
Yeah, especially when they are white. They always get muddy and when they finally clean the mud off of themselves there is always a yellow stain left on their feathers.:barnie
