I will be separating mine to their own pen once it's up. Currently they are in a mixed bantam pen that I also use for grow outs. They get to mingle with large fowl tho about every other day for free range. No one bothers them. The polish get bothered more. My breeds are Ameraucana, Spitzhauben...
This last batch started hatching in the turners because I was off on the day count by one day! Talk about frantically moving the eggs to the hatcher! 🤣
Note, I've mostly had bantams hatch at Day 18/ 19 and my LF on 19/20. I've had very few stragglers that come out on 22 maybe 23. Even with all the power issues I've had this year.
I like it. Its a bit better than mine but I'm currently working on more pens and more predator proofing because of all the influx of coons and opossums.
I'm not sure what I did will help you. I have like 5 roosters with my nearly full time free range flock. When one is being an a** hat I do separate. He gets his own front row seat to everyone's freedom for about a week. The flock can come visit at the bars of his coop if they want. Then he gets...
I have two TSC silkies as well because it looked like I wasn't going to get many from the eBay eggs. Looks like I'm getting four out of the blue creams.
Update to this! Five of the silkie eggs are doing wonderful and five of the Crevecoeur are as well. Delayed developments due to power outage is a possibility here. :)
I did order more eggs before I knew I had development tho. Will have chicks coming out my ears soon.
Also ordered another...
On those blue cream eggs, I have five that are moving and partying in the eggs! So very happy!
Also five of the eight eggs from the Crevecoeur are doing the same!
I'm so relieved I'm getting this much from both orders.
On a side note.... I think they where conspiring to get me to buy more...
Found some in Ohio that I bought on eBay. They are a mixed batch of eggs from pure color pens with no chance of frizzle or nn. They also had colors I was looking for so that's a plus.
I have three more bids going on for blue columbian brahma, Crevecoeur and silver laced polish. None over $20...
Anyone know a breeder of buff, blue, gray and lavender silkies that is closer to Texas than Main. I'm looking for hatching eggs. I'm OK with assorted colors if they are the colors mentioned above. Not really looking for mixes between colors yet.... unless they are blue/red, blue/gold...
That would work as well. And I'm not really set up that well. I don't have traditional coops they are all the open air Amazon runs with tarps on the back 1/3rd where the nesting boxes and roosts are. :D
If the flock has access to them say a hardware cloth partition where they can still be kinda a part of the flock but separate it can work. That's how I had my two Phoenix brood a year or so ago. Had no issues with reintegration of mom or juveniles.
