I didn't know males matured quicker. That makes me feel a bit better. I have a male & female hatched at the end of May. He has been crowing (and apparently fertilizing eggs) for a few weeks now while she isn't even squatting and has shown no interest in the nest box. Maybe she will lay one day. 😆
All these chick pics are adorable! I wanted to add some fall chicks but a) building the silkie coop hasn't happened yet and b) I didn't want to risk more cockerels yet.
Maybe 2022 will be year of the pullet. 🤞🤣
So the third, of 5, silkies was crowing this morning. 😒🤣 I have only heard one of them crow one time at 6 weeks but he looks very much like a cockerel. Really hoping the last one is a 2nd hen! 🤞
So far, this is how my guy is doing. He is 4.5 months and may change once the other cockerels age up. 🤷♀️
I did find out he managed to fertilize the first eggs my big (non-silkie) girls laid. 😳 Seriously shocked. They are only all together for a few minutes every week or so and I never...
I keep trying to tell him that doing stuff like this is perpetuating the stereotype that silkies aren't the brightest tool in the shed. 😜
He doesn't listen. Just continues to sit and stare at the wood.
On another note, as cute as bearded silkies are, I'm kind of already over pulling beard...
Here's a post!
Someone was NOT happy that I washed his face. They always get crusty nares (is that the right word? 🤔) when I give them mash.
Can you say attitude? 😆
😆🥰 Ranboo (my dd named him 🤷♀️) has been going for 15 minutes or so every morning this week. He cracks me up, sounds like a sad, old squeaky toy at the end.
Not sure what color this guy (most likely) is but he needs the manager. Now, please.
Is this splash? He isn't the same steel/blue grey as my blues so I wasn't sure.
That's what I was thinking. Didn't know if he may continue feathering in darker or not.
Either way, I heard his crowing this morning. It is so cute at this point. LoL May not be as adorable when I have 4 or 5 crowing silkies and zero hens. 😂
