    Feeding Wild Birds

I found out I have a turkey family too. The babies are about football sized, they came to visit yesterday. Haven’t seen the big toms recently. 🤔

    Feeding Wild Birds

The barred owls were having a lengthy conversation today. This is the first time I’ve had confirmation that I still have more than one of them in a while.

Saw the female hummingbird this morning while I was out harvesting herbs.

    Feeding Wild Birds

🤔 How good are the cowbirds at recognizing their eggs? Hypothetically could you get a fake that looked similar and replace it with that? EDIT: Tangent but Google search suggests you can get a permit to remove cowbird eggs, though I would absolutely find a more concrete authority than Google to...

    Feeding Wild Birds

Had to refill the hummingbird feeder today! The little birds are voracious this year. I hope it’s for good reasons (lots of hungry babies) and not bad ones (cold weather messing with their wild food sources). 🙏

I saw the female hummingbird today! ❤️

    Feeding Wild Birds

The male Ruby-throated hummingbird has staked his claim to the feeder. No sign of the female yet.

    Feeding Wild Birds

I haven’t been seeing much at the feeder except titmice recently, but a few turkeys have been visiting the yard the last few days. At least one is a big tom and I’ve been hearing him gobble for the ladies in the mornings.

Titmice absolutely do, they’re some of my safflower suet feeder’s best customers. I’ve seen chickadees and nuthatches too, and juncos and some hairy (?) woodpeckers.

Your cardinals eat Safflower seed? I wish mine did!

    Feeding Wild Birds

I’ve got European Starlings, and the problem is they’re bullies - they chase off the other birds. Speaking of, I need to find more types of feed they don’t like. I use safflower seed right now, because every time I put something else out they monopolize it and chase everything else away. I want...

    Feeding Wild Birds

Mostly bluebirds and bluejays lately. Suet feeder had to come in for a bit due to a nearby bear sighting (!!!), hopefully it’s deep enough in the winter now the bear is safely hibernating…

Had a Northern Flicker come visit my feeder the other day! ❤️ I hadn’t seen him in ages.

    Feeding Wild Birds

Need to make some more suet this weekend, the birds have eaten through the first batch.

    Feeding Wild Birds

Woodpeckers and titmice are enjoying the suet. It isn’t lasting more than a few days once they get to it. Some chickadees and finches too, I’ve even seen a couple mourning doves although I don’t know if they’re there for the food since it isn’t that kind of feeder. Minor tangent, does anyone...

I put out a new feeder today to hold BSFL. I want more insectivorous birds around my veggies!

    Feeding Wild Birds

Similar situation here. I’m only seeing one bird, not the fights between two or three like I was. A few more weeks and their feeder is coming down whether it’s empty or not. Speaking of, I need to remember to make up a batch of suet to replace it with.

    Feeding Wild Birds

Mine did, I had five or so of them come through. I hope they found the caterpillars I threw into the yard!

    Feeding Wild Birds

Hummingbirds still fighting over the feeder. Oddly, it seems to be the female (or possibly one of the juveniles, but I’m assuming the adult) who’s been posting herself as sentry on top of the thing this year, it’s usually the male. And he’s still around because I saw him today.
