If your washing machine is starting to build up lint and crud in the bottom, it will make your clothes stink. You can run an empty load on hot with a couple cups of bleach which helps clean it all out. I use a half cup of Hydrogen Peroxide in with every load of clothes. It doesn't harm most...
Australorps are my all time favorite breed! They are hardy and healthy and make great lap warmers too! 😁
You are so lucky to be involved with the Falconry sport, I find it extremely fascinating! ❤️ It's an ancient art/sport of hunting, it's been around for over 2000 yrs. There is a club about 3...
Hello and welcome to the thread! :frow What breeds of chickens do you keep? Ooh, falconry, I've always wanted to do that. I love your profile photo, did you draw that? 😊
We have an epidemic of leg scale mites around here, it's a constant battle. Greasing up the legs helps but never gets rid of it. I've found Ivermectin pour on along with permethrin spraying is the only way to keep it down to a dull roar.
:hugs Every flock has a few birds that don't thrive as well, and these little issues definitely make them weaker. We do our best to give them good lives and all the love they can handle. :hugs
Thanks for the photos Fluffy! ❤️ Oh goodness, this just looks like she got a peck from another bird. I can see several dried peck marks on her comb on both sides. She isn't too high in the pecking order? It looks like pecking to me, and I don't think it's anything to worry about. :hugs If you...
Definitely get a pic tomorrow if you can. It's probably something that will fade/heal over time.
Death is like that, we can never make sense of it. :hmm
Coryza CAN cause the face and sinuses to swell but not actual bumps. That's why I'd like to see exactly what you are talking about here. Coryza hits hard and fast, if you haven't added any birds to your flock recently, than what ever this is is most likely self contained. Young birds tend to get...
Yes to keep them safe from crashes, it's best to trim the primaries. Start with 1 centimeter or so and trim more if needed, just to keep them from getting too much lift.
Coryza is a bacterial infection of the respiratory system, it does not cause bumps anywhere in the body. So don't worry about Coryza! Can you get a photo of this bump? She could have poked herself and that is pus. Could be an ingrown feather. Old old birds can get cancerous lumps but generally...
I always trimmed my birds primaries so they didn't get too much lift. Short enough to gently glide down to the floor but not long enough to fly up into things.
Sounds like you are giving him a wonderful home and should no one come forward to claim him, he is in the best of hands! If the cover you wish to use is a bit thick, then leave it cracked over the front of the cage so air can get in and out. It's not necessary to cover the entire cage really...
For enrichment, if he will spend long hours in a cage alone, give him a much space as you can afford. Use bendable rope perches, it's easier on their legs and feet. Mirrors, hang millet stalks, small bells, ladders, basically things to do. Check out the pet parrot section of a local pet shop or...
Hopefully you can find his owner, but you did well rescuing him! In a day or two he should bounce back from being in shock. It's hard to tell whether or not he's on a seed or pellet diet, but they definitely like fruit, cooked veggies, especially peas, pasta as a treat only. As @fluffycrow...
I suppose in a way it's a good thing we are a bit oblivious about our bodies. If we spent our entire lives worrying about our health or our death, we'd be bigger basket cases than we are now. 🤣
