    We have an epidemic of leg scale mites around here, it's a constant battle. Greasing up the legs helps but never gets rid of it. I've found Ivermectin pour on along with permethrin spraying is the only way to keep it down to a dull roar.

    Yes to keep them safe from crashes, it's best to trim the primaries. Start with 1 centimeter or so and trim more if needed, just to keep them from getting too much lift.
