I have noticed that the average chicken trusts a dog better than they trust a cat. They are much more wary of cats. I believe it is because dogs have been used to guard livestock for hundreds of years, while cats are not bred for that due to their sport-killing behavior.

When my cat gets too close to Ruby, she will run at him and attack. She does the same thing with my dog. Good thing neither of them care. She is the only chicken I have that is brave enough to attack a cat. The other chickens just do the cat warning and back away.
