I have a 39 week old Easter Egger hen that has yet to lay an egg. I also have a 28 week old Buff Orpington and 3 28 week old Andalusians that have not laid any eggs. I'm in Central Florida, so it really hasn't gotten that cold here, although we've had a few days where we got into the low...

For the first time ever, all 5 of my laying hens laid an egg on the same day. The coolest part is that I can identify which egg came from which hens. Can’t wait until the other 5 start laying.

We are starting to get 3-4 eggs a day from 5 of our 10 hens, enough to fill up cartons. The other 5 are still too young to lay, but should be laying soon. Here are a dozen. A variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. I know that as they start to lay more frequently, I might expect the eggs to get...

Congratulations! It's nerve wracking. I have my first flock too. I was told that my hens would start laying around 16-20 weeks old, and the first one finally laid an egg at 26 weeks. The second one has yet to lay an egg at 27 weeks.

OK, here's the photo. The brown is from a 10 month old EE/RIR mix that has been laying for me almost every day since I got her two weeks ago, and the green one is the first egg from an 18 month old EE that I got at the same time.

As soon as the weather warmed up, the 18 month old EE finally laid an egg. So now two of the four are laying. I hope it's contagious. Can't post the photo for some reason.

Mine moved the golf balls too. I'm going to use a milk crate to make a nest box where they are laying and gradually move it to where I want them to lay. I hope it works.

So in other words, the only constant is change....lol. Good point. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Now that the weather is warming up again, maybe I'll see some eggs. Of course winter in FL is crazy. We can have temps in the 80's and in the 30's within the same 24 hour period. It is not...

Everyone has been so helpful. I have another egg laying question. I got 4 new hens a week and a half ago. 3 Ten month old hens and one about 18 months old. All 4 were established egg layers at their previous home. I was warned that the stress of a new coop and flock may stop egg laying...

Thanks! All that primping in the nest, and she just layed her first egg on the threshold to the coop, Basically, right on the door frame, so it got cracked. It was a tiny little thing, pale brown and speckled. I forgot to get a picture of it. It was a very small, but fully formed with a hard...

I have a 26 week old Black Sexlink that has not started laying yet. Today, while one of my other hens was laying an egg, the Black Sexlink stood at the entrance to the coop singing the egg song at the top of her lungs. After the laying hen left the nest, The Black Sexlink started circling the...
