My first two hens were older battery hens and they laid a lot of eggs for me over a number of years. I loved those girls!! We called them Rosie and Ruby.
Today I found the first egg that I'm sure was laid by one of my barnevelders. It is the egg on the top right, darker than the other...
LOL, Liz! My EEs were shipped 4/9 so probably hatched 4/6 or 7. You'll have to do the math. I've got a 6 year old child making me nuts at the moment. Don't ask! My EE Vanessa laid her first egg yesterday. My first green one! These are all 6 that we collected this morning. I put hers next to the...

I can't wait for my first duck eggs!!! How old are blue swedish and khaki campbells before they'll lay??
Oh and we ate two of Henrietta's eggs today. The yolks were sooooo orange! Been a while since we had a layer!
The eggon the right was in one of the nest boxes this morning. (The egg on the left is store bought.) I believe it's from one of my red stars, Henrietta. It was IN the nest box! Woohoo!!! Then I found that Sasha, my mutt chicken who's been laying for years, was in the nest box too. A different...
