You'll occasionally see strange shaped eggs, you just never saw them in those 'perfect' dozens from the supermarket! I've never had a pear shaped one, but I've had them very pointy on both ends, or almost totally round.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, finally, a fine little pullet egg. Of course we have no idea who laid it, but that's ok, it's the first one! And I'm very happy my DH found it, he's worked so hard on that coop and run for me....it registers as a Peewee egg on my scale
