A few of our eggs have been HUGE. I saw why when I cracked them open to use. They were all double yolks. From barred rocks. I almost forgot to take a pic of it. I was making salmon patties. That is 1 egg in there.
It's not our first egg, althought these 6 girls are recent layers. I got my first HUGE egg this morning. It has to be from our RIR girl, Roody Red! It's 2.6oz. and the the other eggs are ranging from 1.5-1.9. The longer they are laying the bigger the eggs are getting. And with 6 girls we are...
We've had 2 "rubber" eggs, but they seem to be back to laying regular hard shell eggs not. Let's hope. I was told it's nothing to worry about. Just getting their systems adjusted. Make sure you have oyster shell handy, in a feeder/bowl alone. I let mine eat it as they wish. Layer feed is needed too.
congratulations. we were on a roll for a while and now for almost 4 days have not gotten an egg. only 2 rubber ones without shells. I hope our girls get on the ball soon.
Congrats!! We too just starting getting eggs, and I'm so excited. It's like Christmas just going to the coop now. Lol.. Maybe I'll get another this afternoon. We have 6 layers. I would think the rest would jump in and lay too. Lol..
Put a golf ball in the nest boxes. I wasn't sure that would actually work. but I got my first egg yesterday, and second one today. both were in an nest box with a golf ball each, in it.
