This is Speckle, a Cuckoo Marans/Black Australorp mix, one of the two first chicks actually hatched on our property by one of my broody girls. She's just 18 weeks old and these are the first eggs laid by her, just this week. So cute!

Wow! Gorgeous eggs! I expect that my Brown Leghorns will lay larger eggs as they get older, but this one was tiny! Lol!

Yay! First egg from one of our Brown Leghorns, Flame! She'll be 22 weeks old on Monday. She spent about 2 hours in a nesting box, then walked out and dropped it in the leaves out in the run. It's tiny, but so is she. Lol!

LOVE the egg song. One of my SS Hamburg girls is absolutely crazy when she sings her eggs song, it's fantastic! I'll have to record it one of these days, it's a hoot!

She's so cute! I've noticed that the dark Cornish are much heavier than the other girls of the same age. We have Delawares and Silver Laced Wyandottes that also love to fly up and sit on my shoulders, same age, but they are quite a bit lighter than the Dark Cornish. Those girls are STOUT! Lol! I...

Ah. We don't add light, these are late summer chicks, we got them at the end of August, so ours are not quite as old. A little over 5 months. We do give them oyster shell and they have access to nesting boxes all over the place. One of our Delawares of the same age has been laying for a week...

Lol! Don't worry, it will happen! Our first flock, which were all Silver Spangled Hamburgs, didn't produce an egg before 26 weeks. Most of them were a few weeks after that. I was absolutely amazed when a Delaware in our newest flock laid an egg at just over 20 weeks. I was almost ashamed...

OMG! So cute! Congratulations! We have 13 Dark Cornish that have not laid as of yet, some of them look much more developed than your girl. They're 21 weeks old right now. How old is your little sweetie?

Lol! I know the feeling! It's excruciating, but such a wonderful experience to take a baby chick and raise her up to the point where she will be a grown up chicken. It makes you proud!
