No experience with them, but thanks for posting the link. Their new facility is not far from where my hubby works, and their prices seem reasonable, so I think I will give them a try!
That's what I thought - I don't recall ever seeing them in the Breeders section: Poultry Swap Ontario would never knowingly allow disreputable breeders to advertise on their site.

Um, what/who exactly are you referring to? I checked the posts from a page back and couldn't find anything that you might have been referencing. It would be useful to others if you quoted the post you are replying to.

Hi Quailsong.
Found the link for the Vernon pigeon and poultry club :
http://www.vppc.ca/index.html
That is def closer to you than B.C..
There is also the Eastern Ontario Breeders Association:
http://www.easternbirdbreedersassociation.ca/
Both are in the Ottawa area.
Good luck!
Try ActiveLifeFarm.

You may find what you're looking for there. Don't know where you are located in NS though. It may be too far wawy for you.

It's a bit far for me, since I'm in south eastern ontario, but I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun! I've been to similar events closer to home and I always enjoy them.

I don't know where you would have heard that they aren't the best layers ... Everything I have read about them consistently says that they are very good layers, very cold-hardy, and usually lay through the winter. I have also spoken to quite a number of people who keep Chanteclers and...
Thanks again, Mountain Wampus ... I found the same website, and wondered if it was the one you had seen. Once I am properly set up here, I will contact them.
Thanks, Mountain Wampus! I'll do a search and hopefully come up with the name of a hatchery that carries them. I hope to find some in Ontario, or someone who will ship small orders if outside Ontario.
Blue Australorps? I haven't heard of them until now ... they must be beautiful. Australorps are one of my favourite breeds, on my list as part of my first mixed flock, so I am curious to see what they look like. Do you have any pics?
Glad you found what you were looking for. Have fun with your chickens!
Too many eggs? Is there such a thing?
I don't have chickens yet, and the flock on a farm "down the road" where I bought them from last year doesn't generate enough winter eggs to sell - only enough for their own consumption...
Maybe you will find what you are looking for if you check out http://www.poultryswapontario.net/: there are breeder listings in the Forum section, and also a list of Canadian hatcheries. I think Frey's offers started poultry, but I am not sure which breeds. You could also try...
Performance Poultry here in Ontario sells Chanteclers in white, partridge and also buff - www.performancepoultry.com - check out the 'poultry' page -> 'rare and unusual breeds' page.
They are one of my favourite breeds.
