Looks like it's been a few days since I've checked in! A warm belated welcome from another Ontarian! I don't know, it seems fairly seasonal smack dab in the middle of the province.. You know, damp, chilly, grey. All seems about right. But on a side note, Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I...

Welcome! Glad someone pushed you over towards the Canadian thread! Brahmas seem to be few and far between this year, I've had no luck myself in finding some, or the bantam cochins I've been desperately trying to add to my flock. Everyone with decent breeds seem to be waaaaay up north or out...

Happy Canada Day to you and yours as well! 🇨🇦 I hope everyone is enjoying their day, it's gorgeous where I'm at, the rain has passed and the weather is perfect for doing a little snail removal in the garden. With some help of course!

My coop and run are like fort knox, so I got comfortable. It was a hard lesson to learn, but there's plenty of us on here to learn through so you don't need to suffer the same heartache. è I've got an amazing little golden laced wyandotte who survived with one wing out of that incident...

And the ladies themselves, since I'm being honest. Blondie had the the softiest feathers ever, she's my avatar picture.... heck I could go on and on for each of them. They all had personality and special little quirks. Remember, if a corner of your covered run gets damaged in a windstorm...

I only got my Azures and my Production Reds (think they called em Shavers at the time) through them, both of which laid straight through their first year, azures laid through their second too, both winters included. I didn't have any luck with my Barred girls, had one prolapse on her first egg...

Welcome to the most rewarding hobby on earth! First year with chickens is always the harder, and there will be hiccups, but the amazing feeling of getting those eggs trumps all! Especially if you're one of those people who takes pride in winning over the hearts of your flock! What breeds did...

Kijiji has been pretty sparse for the 2.5hr ride in any direction from me lately. BUT the Huronia Fur n Feather Association looks like they're going ahead with the spring B/S/T, so that gives me some time to figure out a game plan.

My daughter is going duck crazy this year and begging for a pair.... am I going to regret ducks if I give in? 🤔 And I don't know where the heck I'd get them at this point, if I order from anyone now, I won't see them until the end of the freaking summer.

Sorry for the delayed response, I never got the notification that someone actually spoke up over here. :frow I've lived in the Orangeville area in the past, most of it is lovely, though rapidly getting more and more pricey, not so bad towards Erin and the northern communities above are nice...

Remember too, that insulated walls tend to hide pests in several forms, so the lighter you on the insulation the better! I've also seen poultry go to town on the foam insulation boards! If you decide they might be a good easy idea for the coop ceiling, just be sure they're out of reach. Don't...

I'm in the Barrie-ish area and I don't insulate or heat. I may block off a bit of my coop this year due to some predation loss brutally bringing flock numbers down, but in my many years of chicken keeping, I've never insulated and only have used a heater for the silly broody hatching in...

Yep! They love em! Even put in the effort to try to jump and pluck them out of the air on their little silk parachutes! But only when their still in the size range of the 1-2cm, after that I'm on my own. :sick

Between the caterpillars and the pollen... Ugh! I haven't had an allergy season this bad in a dogs age. I take some particular glee in knowing the chickens love the little itty bitty hive causing leaf destroyers!

Welcome Teoti! I'm not exactly near, but I'm in the same province, and I do have family in both Mattawa and North Bay, so I know the area at least! And I'm crossing my fingers on getting back up that way sooner rather than later if I can find a Magical Miracle delivering Rainbow Princess...
