I second the feather-out advice. Beyond that, it's pretty circumstantial. Chicks can do just fine in the cold; I use a mama heating pad instead of heat lamps so I can transition them outside faster. And I've had a broody hatch chicks and so don't need to come inside at all (we recently had a...

I am indeed; taking some time to try and get ready. Hoping I have until the end of the month until baby arrives but could be any day :)

I actually have the same problem with my younger pullets and roos (poor butt feathers are getting yanked out by the others); my partner has been kicking them out at night. And of course you can try blocking access to the boxes at night. But if it's a day-time problem I'm not sure. I guess...

I just recently saw an increase in egg production, but I had lots of influencing factors. For instance, the day after fixing-up some new nest boxes saw double the eggs :). Last year things really took off in February, and I've got almost twice the chickens this year so I'm hoping for big things...

Ah precisely! I still buy wilton along with the big names (depends on my budget/what I'm doing with the cheese). But my sister is in Belleville and I'll often pick up an empire brick if I've got time when I visit :) I'd like to try making my own cheese one day....

Picking up cheese too? :D (though I'm coming from Peterborough and prefer Empire but shhh...don't tell anyone ;)) I haven't been to your area yet, hopefully we'll take some time to explore that side someday.

Hi! Wish I could help you out with the quail, I haven't ventured into non-chicken fowl yet. Have you tried searching for local facebook groups perhaps?

Hello everyone! Didn't realize that I wasn't getting alerts for this thread, I just assumed it had gone dormant! I'm sorry I missed this earlier. I'll send you a PM I haven't dealt with DC, but I've also only come across negative reviews as well. I bought from PP for the first time last...

:frow Hi! If you haven't already you'll find various members that have chickens in very cold climates. Of course chicken breed plays a role in their hardiness. Lots of info on winter issues on BYC this time of year if you think your birds will need extra care!

Thanks for posting @TruNorth ! You won't find a huge hub of Canadians here, but there's a fair amount. Mostly we're just lost amongst the US members and I think most provinces have popular chicken forums as well. I'm sure you'll still find lots of useful info as there are lots of breeders of...

:welcome Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! Not sure how many check on this thread regularly so you might have better luck making a new thread (if you haven't already) to see if you can catch someone's attention. Obviously there are big hatcheries you could order from, but most people would...

:welcome Hi @Chickylove12 ! Thanks for popping in :) There are a lot of northern US members here, but sometimes it's nice for some in-country advice lol I'm not far from you, I had chickens for the first time last year and got my first chicks this spring. I'm really enjoying it! (eating eggs...
