    My hens are mutts, crosses of Ameracauna and French Maran. They tolerate bad winter conditions quite well, especially those with the little rise comb.

    Oh and I meant to say also not expensive. $15 a bird. I got mine last August and they were laying by late fall, but he may well have laying hens for sale as well. I don't think he sells his little chicks.

    If you're not too worried about purebred Marans there's a man south of Cambridge that sells Maran mix pullets that are very nice and lay the dark brown eggs.

    That was a nice brunch and thanks to the new friends that came out to it. I've never tried that restaurant and enjoyed it so much I'll go back. Breakfast out is my favourite meal out.     AM! Saturday morning brunch at Kathy's restaurant at Peter's Corners, the junction of highway 8, 5 and 52, just north of Dundas, just south of Rockton.

    Peter's Corners is called that because it used to be a very complicated intersection of three highways, but now is a great roundabout.     In my experience safe happy integration takes lots of time. But others may have different experiences. Certainly partition the coop and run so they can see each other but not get together.
