I have a saying in my house.. which some have come to appreciate and some not so much..
"If there are five people in this house creating work then there are five people in this house that have a duty to do the work"
The usual expectation is.. if you are sitting at home and not doing anything...
OH I agree completely.
One night I got so cross about it (we had a problem at the time where certain of the teenagers hoarded dirty dishes and literally 2 minutes after I set a full dishwasher going and sat down - they'd deposit all the dirties on the bench) .. I made them "hand wash" their...
IN a similar vein - A friend of mine wanted to change her name after her divorce, but did not want to revert to her maiden name - so she made a surname out of the letters of her childrens names. I LOVE the idea!!!
I TOTALLY feel you on that one.
One of my pet peeves is that my family don't ever stack their dishes (dont' get me started on why they couldn't put them in the empty dishwasher). Each plate and cup takes up a separate space on the bench - and some bright spark inevitably ends up balancing...
"I know you think your job is important enough for me to drop everything else and do it with absolute priority - but I'm sorry, I've got a previously scheduled meeting with a bottle of sloe gin, and that's a customer I just cannot defer!"
I find they really aren't that interested in my chicken run if there are other food sources around so yes if there is an easier food option available they're generally happy to avail themselves. Usually we throw possum or pukeko carcasses out for them but have been too busy to hunt lately :(...
That's exactly what I did.. busted them trying to get out of the chicken run after their failed raid attempt LOL. They'd gotten themselves to the corner and were trying unsuccessfully to look all rough and tough. I wasn't buying it.. they got unceremoniously grabbed by the legs, dangled upside...
These are Harrier Hawks. Looks like the adult/parent (at the front) and the juvenile offspring (at the back).
Notwithstanding the fact that they're a blooming nuisance - they're beautiful birds and I do admire them!
These two will serve some time then I'll release them.
Clearly they're very...
Speaking of predator proofing & firearms - Just decided to go see my chickens and found a double surprise!
These two had managed to get into my chicken run (sometime in the last two hours), but weren't clever enough to get out again before I grabbed their A$$e$ and threw them in cat cage...
In my house the hunting spiders are allowed to stay (I love those to bits!) but I evict the daddy long legs and white tails. I have nothing against spiders at all but they make waaay too many webs :(
IN reality, I'll evict a couple of the spiders who have been lurking in the top corners, I'll put my stock pots out in the garage (don't need them for a few months yet anyways), put the recycling out on it's due day, and refill my containers.
It's not even a job really... but I just objected...
My teenager.. who cleans his room once every six months or so (I've given up asking).. asked me to clean the pantry (with two days notice) so that he can use it for filming this weekend.
Given that it's the busiest 3 weeks of the year (workwise) at the moment and I can barely keep my eyes...
