My single pheasant is still appearing to be a hen….but won’t know for sure for a bit yet.
She’s doing better in the run with the Guinea keets and nugget meat chicks
I have 1 lone pheasant chick from an egg my last broody duck sneaked in her clutch. It was in the brooder tote with my BC chicks. Over the weekend, Waldo managed to escape the brooder tote twice and is too small to put in my chain-link kennel brooder so we had to use a little ingenuity. Mr...
The dogs flushed beavis (the male with very few feathers) out today 🤬 he squeezed through the gate, and ran down the driveway avoiding the dogs. I locked the dogs up but he went into the bushes in the fence row instead of going back to the gate. :th im hoping I can manage to get him back in or...
Ive benn dumping feed along the fence line and they were already used to drinking water out of a kiddie pool which I have one in the corner for the piggies, and a bucket for the goats next to a 40 gal water tank for the cow. I’m putting the 5gal waterer out as well, but I wanted to scrub it...
I've got to figure out a good feeding situation for the birds....the other critters have been cleaning up the food I put out for the pheasants and I'm afraid they'd clean out the range feeder too if I put it out??? Any ideas welcome
So we didn’t have the heart or the motivation to put my pheasants in the freezer and no time to build a new aviary so we just brought them over and put them in the pasture with zero expectations. The girls flew off immediately ☹️ but Beavis and Butthead have carved out a corner of pasture and...
I’ve gotten 3 or 4 so far over the last month……im resisting the temptation to incubate because we’re moving in a couple weeks and I’m not set up to move the pheasants 🙈
I will have to start over in the gamebird department once I get everything arranged.
I tried to justify it as weather too but he was challenging the bunnies in negative temps and snow/ice 🙀 but at least, not messing with the dux! They have just about decimated the last of the live plants too :th
well I didn’t get a chance to remove extra cockbirds……and not sure why in middle of winter, but dominant cockbird has turned extremely aggressive 😭. He killed one of the non-dominants and was even “challenging” the bunnies through the fence :th
I’m still planning to remove at least 2 of the remaining cockbirds before winter. And once I complete necessary aviary maintenance and repairs, I’m thinking about switching to red golden and bobwhite 🤔
I had some predator issues over the last few weeks…….have caught 1 opossum so far now that I reset the trap
BUT……it killed all of my remaining coturnix and my smallest cockbird chicks……the one I was planning on keeping was injured on Sunday so I had to get DS1 to help me cull 😭
