They are 7 weeks old this week. I tried to introduce then to outdoor today while I swept and emptied their bin but they all told me hell no and ran back inside. So I stuck their bin outside once it was cleaned and freshened up and let them enjoy some sunlight and experience the breeze for 30 min...
The chick's are now a month old and it feels surreal we have come this far. They are still living inside in the giant tote box brooder and custom lid my husband built. We are almost done building the chicken coop, it's been set back multiple times by the wonderful Idaho winter weather of rain...
We have named one - my oldest daughter Oakley fell in love and bonded with the Silkie E chick. Named it Raven. Raven cuddled right up in her arm and didn't try to run or chirp. Just loved the cuddles.
My husband bonding with chick's tonight. He was holding brahma B, here. Little one fell asleep for probably 20 minutes before my husband put it back.
This is the man who said "why do the chickens need to be in the house?"
😉🐣🤣🥰
Not yet, I'm torn between just their identifiers for now and naming them when I can sex them (I have to learn) or giving them temporary names. But I would likely get myself confused either way. 🐣🤷♀️🤣
Enjoy their beautiful fluff "fresh 48" photos.
They are all very healthy and vocal. Moved to the brooder this afternoon and introduced to water/food.
3 dark Silkies, 1 light silkie, 2 light brahma...
Silkie A is a light silver/cream.
Silkie B is black skin and a black/brown mottled fluff...
Silkie B and Brahma B hatched within minutes of one another on day 22. Silkie B has all black skin and beak and is more of a brown and black than Silkie D which has pink skin and white/yellow patches. Silkie E also finally pipped! Just hoping to see a pip on Silkie C, the last egg.
Day 22 and we have had 3 hatches so far, with 2 pipped.
Brahma A, Silkie A, and Silkie D (the dark one). Brahma B has been pipped since yesterday but no progress and Silkie B pipped this afternoon. Still no pics from Silkie C and Silkie E. Makes me anxious! I hope they're OK. 🙏
We have chirps! So far Silkie A and D are pipped, Both Brahma A & B are pipped! Yes, it's 1am and I cannot fall asleep so I'm listening to chirps and staring in awe at these guys!
Went to bed after 5am and woke up at 930 to a pip!! Little silkie A! Nothing on the rest, yet, but I'm going to start working on some Thanksgiving dishes and just try to keep my mind off it for an hour or two. 😅🐣🥰
Day 20 coming to a close. It's insane how slow time is passing now that I'm impatiently waiting for a pip or peep! Nothing so far...
I moved the chicken cam to the side so I wasn't catching a glare from the window. But other than that it's been the longest day, ever. 🙃🥴😅
