I have emu eggs everywhere 😳 somehow have to find a way to fit them all in the incubator.
Just incase anyone was wondering, this is how you properly cuddle a mu.
After having to put down two of my babies on Friday, I’ve been depressed and sick. Been trying to figure out how to get out of the funk. Sushi was not quite 6 months old and Beau just turned 6 yrs old. Ive spent every moment with little Sushi since we picked her up from the breeder.
Unprovoked...
Holy cow… 17 days between egg #4 and egg #5. Such a difference from last season. Longest stretch was 6 days. I wonder if the birds know when cold snap is going to happen and try to hold off laying. The chimkens just picked back up and now getting a couple dozen per day.
Hopefully the wait for...
I did try letting Goose brood on a few eggs last year, he just couldn’t figure it out. He would lay on them all night, then would get up and walk around all day. Luckily they were duds, but just wanted to see how he’d do.
So your male doesn’t wait for at least 3 or 4 eggs before sitting?
Egg #4 has arrived. The adult emus are moving around for their sleeping areas. So hunting for eggs in 8” of snow… it got down to 17F last night, hoping they sat next to it all night so it didn’t freeze. Checking it when I get home from work for cracks.
Egg #3 showed up Friday the 16th in the...
Egg #2 has arrived! She laid it yesterday evening and grabbed it before it got down to 21 degrees. That’s the longest stretch she’s gone between laying. It’s usually 3 to 6 days. But 8 days 😳 she was holding that puppy in there for a while.
The color is different from the first, I’ll have to...
This is only her second year of laying. I’ve noticed they’re a different color on the first one or two. Then they seem to even out and have more pores, which changes the color.
The little pen works, kind of. Goose reaches through the large fence openings and nips at the young ones. As you can see, they’re still figuring it out…
The male eBay chick.
Goose and Willy’s female child is the larger one.
Still working through who is going where. There’s more pasture...
25 made it.
Should have an update on the young mus once I get them a pen set up outside. They’re currently still in the run under cover with no grass :/
27 hatched, 28 actually but it’s brain was outside of its skull. Not bad for shipped eggs! Really really didn’t want to use a brooder this time. So one hen took on the task. I kept putting chicks under her and all were accepted with open wings lol
