And in defense of newbies: I call my birds by their colors/appearances so folks can picture them. Plus, it's how I refer to them when differentiating between them. I have 2 orpingtons: a buff and a lavender. And I have 2 silkies: a black one and a splash. If I'm talking about them to someone...
