Colored Egg June Adopt-An-Egg Hatch Along!

My legbars are only 7 weeks, but their crests aren't nearly that poofy! I have a couple of crosses that are hinting crests, but not very much yet.

My granddaughter decided our legbars (already in grey feathers) are named Elsa, because she wears a blue dress and Bluie, because, well, she's blue. :)

Make sure it is a "watched" thread, then under Forums, pick Watched Threads and it will show up highlighted if there's anything new. I have the same issue, so I turn off e-mail notifications and just check watched threads when I open BYC in my browser. So far, though, I haven't figured out how...

You should be fine. Remember that chicks you order have been without food or water for at least two days. They usually do okay, so a few extra hours for the chicks in the incubator should be no problem.

I'm hoping for a good pic of L1! If she's the one in your second picture, it looks like she may well be a girl! I don't see a white spot on the head and the eyeliners seem fairly strong.

She's the one with greenish down! :)

I would take out only the chicks that are completely and totally fluff-dried. It will help the ones that are still in the shell to hear someone, but you can keep them from getting too crowded if they are good and dry.

F8 will be next. My hypothesis has two levels, the first is weight loss is correlated with growth and early hatching. The second is that lower humidity results in a slower (normal) growth rate.

Having her in the incubator, peeping, will encourage the other chicks to zip out faster

My first to hatch stayed in the incubator for almost 18 hours with no adverse effects. I'd leave her in until it gets crowded, then move everyone that is completely dry over to the brooder.

Definitely need to use this next time with students. You can talk about trends and forecasting. You might even touch on algebra with the slope = mx + b formula.

I would like Legbar1 to be temporarily called "Joan Jett". There's just something about that crest on Legbars that says rocker chick to me...

There are several of us who have the Harris Farms NurtureRight 360. Here's a link to an extended thread about using that particular incubator. NurtureRight 360 is Amazing!

The eggs on the inside ring were definitely slower than the eggs on the outside. Next time I hatch I will move them, rotating the eggs from the inner ring of the turner.

Sad for poor L6. :( Can't count on every one being fertile, though. Poor F6 does look like a very early quitter. Not enough vessels to form a full blood ring?

Hooray! I've been out-of-pocket, but returned just in time! Go Legbar1!

I definitely would have to have somewhere to rehome... my chicken tractor is only big enough for 5 hens. My wife hasn't agreed to full-scale chickens. :/

Based on my recent hatch, being available for day 20 and 21 is the most important. I've read that the eggs can be held up to two weeks, but I wouldn't wait that long. I might rest them until Saturday night, but you know my expertise consists of one hatching. :)
