Yeah, that's what I like about the wheatens. I could tell at 2 weeks that the blue and wheaten boys were boys. The splash is just too similar to the girls' coloring though, but it is really starting to look like it's a boy...there's just too much patchy white on his wings. But the wheatens are...

Yay!!! An Ethel, I love it!!! My babies are 3 weeks and 2 weeks now. Older ones are in the coop brooder and the younger ones will be next week. I haven't gotten pics of them for about a week, but they are due for a photo shoot. Definitely have at least 2 boys, a wheaten and blue wheaten...

Yeah, he's actually the one that dispatched her. Normally I can do it but I was too upset this time so he handled it, bless him. It was a sad night. My daughter gave the eulogy (she's 6). It was sweet. The cats came to watch and pay their respects. She had a good send off.

Bad news everyone....Little Anastasia didn't make it. She had started pooing on herself and I finally realized she couldn't bend one of her legs (it would bend, I just don't think she could control it), and she started to go downhill a bit. So, I made the decision to cull her. It was very sad...

So, update on the lavender babies....the healthier one was being a menace to the other and trying to eat her toes, so she is now in the brooder with the other babies. Put her there last night and she's doing great now. Anastasia is still not wanting to get up. She's still just lying there. She...

They both got baths (didn't need to use soap) and got snuggled in a towel while I cleared out the incubator and put a clean hatching tray in there with shelf liner for them. They're starting to fluff up, and the healthier baby is feeling so much better she jumped out of the hatching tray and is...

Thanks UT! I really appreciate the advice. They look pretty "crispy". I worry about that one especially because she had been pipped for about 36 hrs when I finally helped her out this morning, so I have no idea how long ago she actually absorbed her yolk. I'm worried about her starting to get...

So now I'm thinking they may both need a real bath with a little soap. They still look wet but it has to be dry by now. I'm thinking they've got so much sticky on them it's not gonna let them get fluffy on their own. So, do we think it's a good idea to wash them and try to get some of the "glue"...

Oh, they get to rest as long as they need, they were such good babies and little troopers while I was getting them out. Both seem strong as far as still being vocal and all. Just laying there on their backs and sides though...so pooped, lol. I'll update when they're up and about and fluffy.

Also, omg guys. I quit smoking months ago because my 12 yr old asked me to (she saw pics of smoker's lungs in school 🤭) and I vape now, but man oh man if that whole process didn't make me want a cigarette! Whoo! Stressful as heck!

    July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

SUCCESS!!! Both are fully out of their shells now. The pipped baby seems just fine, her head was stuck to the membrane which is why she couldn't finish zipping. Perfectly healthy looking baby. The bottom shell baby...well, she's got a weirdly large stomach. It looks strangely yellowish and...

I have tried, yes, but it seems to already have turned into basically concrete. It was already pretty hard when I helped her yesterday. I put neosporin on it, but it may have been too dried out already to make much difference. I think I'm gonna try giving her a bath in some warm running water...

    July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

She still seems pretty weak, but she can lift her head every once in a while. She is not chewing anymore. I think I can see that her wing is stuck to the membrane...it seems to be getting pulled kinda straight. I haven't seen her struggle and try to free herself yet. She seems to exhausted to...

This is the only one I already had on my phone....this is yesterday just after I helped her get her head out. ETA: The pipped egg is in the bottom right of the pic, although you can't see much.

So now I think the lavender baby's bottom half is stuck in the shell :hmm She still hasn't come out even though her strength is up quite a bit and she seems a lot more alert. Also, I think the last lavender baby, who pipped yesterday morning, might be stuck/sticky too. Should I just call it...

    July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

That was the plan. I'm just really worried about her. I only got 4/10 of them to lockdown, and one ended up being a split, so I really want all 3 of the others to make it. The 4th just pipped this morning, but she's made a nice big hole so I can tell she's still alive. I thought this was an...

    July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Guys, I'm really worried about the latest Lavender baby. I had to help her quite a hit because she got really stuck in her shell. One of those really sticky ones where they just can't get out by themselves. I helped her get her head unstuck and out, but left her bottom in the shell just in case...

Got confirmation from the breeder that that egg came from her pen that has some splits in it. So, mystery baby is definitely a black split. Which is totally fine. She's beautiful!

Well, I've got 10 hatched now. There's still 2 pipped and the last one hasn't done anything, but when I candled it yesterday it was still alive. There are 2 Lavender Ameraucanas(1 split, 1 lavender) and 8 Birchen Marans. The 2 pipped are both Lavenders. I hope they both make it!

Ok, thanks. I thought so. The pics don't do her justice. She looks WAAAAY darker in person for some reason. I love the little mask on her face though. She's cute as a button. I guess that's one way to get the black I wanted so badly :gig
