The little blue paint chick, the only paint this hatch, that was perfectly fine last night, had some sort of leg issue this morning. Does not want to put weight on it. Not sure how she could’ve gotten injured as the baby brooder is baby proof. Possibly one of the other chick stepped on her...
So sorry you lost little Anastasia. :hugs
I know how hard it is, some people just don’t seem to understand how much these little birds mean to us. You did a wonderful job taking care of her as long as she was able to be here. Sounds like a beautiful funeral and a good experience for your...
I have some mixed Silkie eggs on the August hatch along, just six of them though. Chicks will be 75% Silkie and 25% Ameraucana. Was a spontaneous decision after I regretted selling the hen that laid them.
Not planning more after that for awhile.
ALL the Silkie girls are broody anyway.😊
Thanks!😊
4 haved hatch, now 3 more are hatching. The one that I thought was DIS definitely is and the one that was shadowing is also DIS, so these were removed. I always open the egg shell a bit and poke the poor little thing with the back of a pencil to make sure it really is dead.
I had nine...
For DIS, no movement whatsoever and there’s also a little discoloration in the fluid just above the chick but under the air cell. I do always leave these though in the incubator until all the other chicks have hatched. Just mark them so I know which one it is. You never know, I could be wrong...
7 out 9 internal pips, none have externally pipped yet. I made safety holes in these 7. One of the remaining 2 looks like it may be DIS, the other one is just a little behind the others (shadowing). Time will tell. 🙂
Just keep her in the incubator and give her some time. It’s amazing how they can recover sometimes. There’s not much else you can do for her in the moment.:hugs
My nine Silkie eggs are on DAY 14 and all look good. Will set them on the nonstick shelf liner and stop turning tomorrow as I will be gone for a few days.
Photo of the two remaining chicks from the 7/15 hatch that will be going to their new home later this week.😊
How is your little one doing? Sometimes they can seem this way when they first hatch normally straighten out within a few days. Sometimes helps to make sure they’re getting enough vitamin B, if you’re giving them vitamin water that should be sufficient.🙂
