Eight...yes 8!...full days after the first guinea hatched, this one decided to make an appearance. I had candled the remaing eggs after 2 days of no more hatching or pips and saw just the tiniest bit of movement in this one egg. So I left it alone and waited...and waited...and waited.... IMHO...
I do hope she's okay. My son thought he lost one of his young hens (was just at point of lay) when she vanished without a trace. He was sure either the resident hawk, an owl, or one of the foxes got her. Then one afternoon, almost 2 months later, he was looking out the kitchen window and there...
Sorry, no, I didn't even think to take photos when I candles them. I used a Little Giant Styrofoam incubator and my humidity during incubation fluctuated between 25 and 45% and anywhere between 65% and 81% during lockdown. And sorry it's taken so long to reply as I've been a bit under the...
I'm so sorry about the silvers. 😥 It's especially rough when you get them all the way to lockdown and then they die in the shell for whatever unknown reason.
Aw, sorry about your Guinea hen. 😥
I think the eggs will do okay, though. Guineas take a little longer to hatch anyway (typically 25 to 28 days), and after the chicken eggs all hatch, you'll be able to up the humidity a little more for them...they tend to have harder shells and tougher...
7 keets so far. Six in the brooder box, and one just hatched in the incubator with more eggs pipping. I usually don't remove chicks from the incubator before all the pipping eggs hatch, but the first one hatched early sometime Fiday morning and would have been starving by now if I hadn't...
I'm in love with all the colours!! And that little splash....omgosh!!!😍
I was so hoping the divider boxes worked...looks like I'm resolved to using netted zip-close lingerie bags if I'm needing to keep them separated.
It shouldn't if you're quick about it. Just to be on the safe side I always have a little fine-mist spray bottle on hand that I fill with very warm/nearly hot tap water and then spritz the inside of the incubator lid and over the eggs if I have to open it. It helps to replace any humidity lost.
