Certainly, sounds like a worthwhile investment! I've done similar set ups with tarps mainly, usually while at work. Something I'd suggest if you go this route is to secure your poles good, either by burying them down a foot or two or whatever other way works for you. Wind won't affect netting...

Ah, yes! That's certainly good advice. Thanks!

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

I figured someone would mention that. I'm in a very urban environment, only critters we have to worry about are cat and opossums. The cats could care less about the chickens and don't mess with chicken wire. My only real concern for the opossums potentially getting in is at the door. I'm...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Well, I just realized I never shared how the run came out. 😂 Ended up utilizing a 10'x13' space on the backside of my current run and built it directly into my fence, wall, and other run so that all I had to do was close up gaps and install a roof and door. Pretty happy with how it came out, I...

Ooo, that sounds like a fun project! I've been wanting to build a pallet board work bench for a while now. Looking forward to seeing what yoyou come up with

Not technically a pallet project, but since it's recycled wood and we're all on the conversation of gardening, I felt like sharing anyway. Just put in a new garden bed for our abundance of Sweet Potatoes we've got going this year. I had to put up a fence to deter cats and people from getting...

Being someone in that younger generation that's all about cell phones and bar hopping, I can agree with each and every one of your statements 😅 I enjoy doing stuff with my hands. Theres a reason I chose a job field in which we literally had zero access to technology for long periods of time...

Using an angle grinder to break down pallets sounds interesting! I've only ever used angle grinders on metal and metal projects. It's a great tool to get the job done. Certainly has its own danger potential, just as every other tool does. Whatever works for you, works. I once used a chainsaw to...

I've done a similar style build when framing a wall for enclosing my porch a couple of years ago. I intend to screw them together to make a larger frame. Hopefully will work as well for a roof as it did a wall. I'll certainly share some more photos as I make more progress! My line of work we...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Good weather, available time, and the urgency of needing to move chicks around has me finally getting into gear to hopefully have this run constructed over the weekend! Used my new Sawsall to deconstruct pallets during the week, got a nice pile started. Today I finally started enacting my plan...

Right! I'm of the mindset, 'if I can make it/fix it myself, I'm going to!' Always trying to find ways to save $$$ (I especially love finding goodies that folks throw out! My transport cage for my chicks and pullets is a couple of bird cages someone tossed. Still in great shape) Will do!

😅 I've also picked up a couple of stacks of pallets last week! Hoping to break most of them down and start building the new run and coop. Got less than two weeks to at least get the run built, so we'll see what we can do.

Yeah, wet weather certainly makes things break down a lot faster. 😅 We only have to worry about lots of wet in the winter and spring, otherwise it's bone dry. We have more of an issue with the sun breaking things down in the summer, so the layer of mulch does help to keep the cardboard from sun...

We just did a couple of inches. Its true the cardboard composts down, but with the layer on top I think it lasts a bit longer. Either that or our dry summers might keep our carboard from breaking down quite so fast. 😅 Whatever the case, it works real good for me. Two years later still only...

I do the same thing with cardboard in the walkway, but I use it as a base and put mulch over it. It works really well! Two years now and havent had to pull any weeds except on the very edges.

We were thinking about doing something similar for our tomatoes this year! Last year our tomato plants grew absolutely massive (a few nearly as tall as me! 😯) and our tomato cages just didnt cut it, even with modifications. So we were looking at a couple of options at what we could built that...

    Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Jumping in here with a crappy temporary run for my pullets! Had plenty of extra pallets laying around and needed to get my four week old Leghorns out of the house until I can get the new pen built. Just slapped this together in a couple of day using completely scrap and reused materials. The...
