We are fixing on butchering the hogs end of March!!! My new chicks should be coming in 2 wks. I am trying the new hampshire reds this...

Shes elderly and as much as my heart wants to help her... I can't keep up with providing others food from the Acre and not charging, and I don't think she can afford the charge tbh. It's why I wanted to help her to begin with ...however as my 15yo puts it...I can't be everyone's grocery store...

I am loving my boys more and more...they are the best... But I really really am looking for a milking doe.... Maybe...perhaps...🤣🤣 And a lady at work wants me to hatch and raise some ducks for her so she can eat them... Which is fine...kinda...but I likely will not get paid for this...so I...

Goats!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I do have to say, you've pointed out something that I had forgotten reading about. Goats jump on everything!! Mine are pretty well behaved, and haven't even escaped or tried to that I know of. They seem happy as can be...but I just know that if I were to let them out to roam...

I feel like as soon as you plant that garden ...the goat will go east 🤣🤣🤣 I really envisioned free roaming goats before I got them...lock them in their pen at night type of thing.... or a place to be when I am away from the house... But they are goats...and still kinda skittish....and I am...

So some things and plans for our little place in the next few months. I am closing my front chicken coop "The Hen Hut." I had originally planned to keep a mixed flock in there but truthfully taking care of 2 separate flocks is kinda frustrating. In looking at why I've been doing 2 flocks I...

I'd definitely research temperament of these breeds...vs their looks... Only bc pigs can be down right nasty sometimes... Like any thing else though, it's also personality of the individual... I will NOT let my kids put their hands or bodies in these pigs pen, where as our other loved coming...

Which ones?? I haven't looked much into different breeds...I pretty well found what I was looking for and went to find a breeder... But, again...I wasn't looking for pets or to breed for others... Although I'd love to be able to breed and sell feeders...its just not in the books for us and our...

Naaa..I don't think they are loud... They bark when they get startled which I find funny 🤣🤣🤣 But I don't hear them much at all... We raise during winter bc they are kinda close to the house and with the cold...they don't smell ... But go too far into may...and you'll start smelling them 🤣🤣

Also, we found our breeder on Craigslist... his set up is amazing and clean (as clean can be with pigs) he stock appears healthy and his feeders are mostly Berkshire which is what I wanted for our pig breed

I am learning with our space...planning some animals seasonally is best for us. The pigs will go in May and turkeys will come in April ...also meat. Most of our animals are for meat purposes. I do not care to continually feed them (its not even in the budget!) The chickens stay bc they...

We purchase weaned piglets bc we don't have room to actually have and house a breeding pair. They are strictly for meat. I can't imagine keeping them full time! They are ornery!!! They have a decent sized pen that I'd put no more then 5 in, but wouldn't house them in it long term. I keep...

I use A LOT of pallets as I can grab them from work pretty regularly (the only perk of the job 🤣🤣🤣) we even collect the boards that break off the pallets into a separate box....so when I need to fill in the gaps of the pallets...I just use those...perfect fit..no cutting...though they aren't...

Pens don't have to be pretty, just functional lol. I LOVE using what's available to me to make things work!! It's super interesting and cool to see what can be done, and repurposed. Isn't that part of what homesteading is about?? Using what you have on hand to make what you need in hopes of...
