Has anyone purchased chicks from Hilltop Farms in California? *Do not buy from Hilltop Farms! Negative experiences are in the thread!!!*

I didn’t see symptoms in my adult hens for almost 3 months after having contact with the Hilltop chicks! This sucks so bad because my flock has never been sick in the few years I have them and now I potentially have a lifelong respiratory disease!!! Already lost over $100 and now I have a...

Here’s what her bubbly eye looks like. It’s looks so bad but she’s acting 100% normal and still laying perfect eggs. I’m looking into getting testing done through UC Davis… I’m trying to see if I can send a swab without a vet because I really don’t want to have to pay 100s of dollars to get...

Mycoplasma can have many symptoms but some of the main symptoms are eye bubbles, swelling, sneezing, raspy/gurgly breathing, cough, etc. So far the only symptom I have are the two hens with eye bubbles. I’m keeping a closed flock until I can get either a positive or negative diagnosis of this...

Well I think my flock now has mycoplasma from hilltop farms birds. It’s been almost 3 months since they’ve had contact with the chicks, and two of my hens have gotten runny bubbly eyes within the last two weeks. I guess it’s not unheard of for symptoms to show later like this. No other chicks...

Btw!! If one of your chicks isn’t getting better after corid I highly recommend these sulfa antibiotics from Jedds! https://jedds.com/products/trimethoprin-sulfa-medpet?_pos=1&_sid=2a1b289b6&_ss=r A bad case of coccidiosis can cause a bacterial infection that only these can treat. My chicks had...

Ugh I hate how he’s blaming the heating plate for this! If that was the case then everyone who gets chicks from feed stores would have all of them die in mass numbers going from a lamp to a plate, but is that happening? No! Mine took to the heat plate and settled right down and relaxed, but they...

Yes I saw that before this year, the chicks were healthy and had no issues, which made me choose them in the first place! I have no idea what is going on this year with their chicks, but something isn't right.

The vaccine prevents most chickens from developing symptoms and dying from mareks disease but since it’s a leaky vaccine, it doesn’t prevent the chickens from actually contracting mareks and infecting other chickens. So if you bring home a chicken that’s vaccinated for mareks but carrying the...

Yes the place is in San Diego and it’s called backyardchickies.com ( https://www.backyardchickies.com/ ) found them when I was researching places down here in So Cal and someone in the reviews said the owner knows there’s Mareks in the flock but they’re still selling chickens, even shipping now too!

Last year I got mine from Meyer hatchery, gorgeous and healthy girls, and I would definitely order from them again. I recently purchased eggs from a place called gypsy hen poultry, love them too! Do not purchase from a place called backyard chickies here in So Cal! They are selling chicks with...

Definitely not you! I’m very experienced in raising chicks and lost 5/8 baby chicks in a matter of a week (one was a $50 lavender Ameraucana). Lost over $100 overall and spent an additional $50 in medicine for the remaining 3. I got day old chicks last year, shipped all the way from Ohio to...

I would just keep an eye on the chicks and your adults for the next few weeks! MG usually shows other symptoms too like swollen and bubbly eyes and gurgly breathing. You can get testing done through UC Davis laboratory… it’s $42 per PCR tracheal swab test that you send in. If I ever notice any...

My Ameraucana actually had a clear runny nose with tiny wet sneezes but that stopped since I moved them outdoors during the day and now they’ve been with the flock permanently for 2 weeks. I’m thinking the fine pine shavings is what caused it considering it stopped since they went outdoors and...

I wish I would’ve known when pre-ordering my chicks in January! At the very least, the surviving 3 I have are doing fine and no contagious illnesses have been seen in the rest of my flock and they’re looking like pullets so far… I just had a hen hatch out 6 chicks and all 6 are thriving at 2...

It wouldn’t hurt to give a corid drench! The bloody poops definitely signify a bacterial infection and once the sulfa arrives that should help tremendously.

What Mareks like symptoms does your chick have? I'm definitely hoping my last 3 hilltop chicks don't have any sort of contagious illness like that... My current flock has a mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated and so far I haven't seen anything in the unvaccinated girls. They've been exposed...
