I am not sure what to do.... Not that I think all will hatch but even an 80% hatch rate is 45. Heck even a 50% hatch rate is STILL 28/29! not sure I can find homes for that many! especially if half of them are roos! But afraid if I don't incubate all I will pick quitters or clears...
I have stacked before and haven't had good rates anytime I stack even thought I hand turn. And we will be away so I need an auto turner. I think I may have found one I can borrow but it is only a 12 egg...... so that covers 34 eggs. LOL I may just buy one......
it is a LOT!!!!!! I don't know what I am going to do. LOL trying to find a 2nd incubator that isn't going to be super expensive. and PRAY that I can sell quite a few chicks as straight run since I can't keep that many to raise either. LOL I may not set them all but then I worry...
Quick addition was wrong.....
So was getting eggs from 3 different people. Figured 6 CCL, 6 OE, then 12 shipped with a few breeds.... So total of 24.
Got 12 CCL, 9 OE (they both have extras), and the shipped ones was going to send 18 for a few extra but guess messed up packing first 18 so...
In desperate need of an inexpensive incubator. Any recommendations? Would prefer around $50. Was going to have 30 eggs, incubator holds 22, well now I will have like 48!!!!!
I had 6 quail hatch. it was a rough hatch! some needed help. The last one was so weak it couldn't stand and wouldn't open its eyes, was sticky so I had to wash it off. I left it in the incubator and gave it a few drops of sugar water and nutridrench off my finger a few times last night...
3 quail have hatched. had to assist 1 a bit. But it is doing great. The other 3 eggs are pipped, think one just pipped today but the other 2 have been pipped for about 26 hrs. so thinking I need to at least take a peek and see what they are doing......
I bring a bit of food and water a couple times a day to mine (and the babies) after first baby hatches for the first couple days since they seem to stay on for a couple days and I figure she needs something. After that she will go out and come back. I think after 2-3 days or once the babies...
no quail babies here. Going a bit nuts! Noticed the first pip about 16 hrs ago!!! it could have happened before that but I wasn't home. I hate this part since my brain goes to that they are all DIS and that is why they aren't doing anything. I sure hope they hatch soon!
that time from pip to zip feels like forever!! It never seems to get old at least for me! I am in the same spot with quail eggs right now. It has been about 9.5 hrs since I saw the first pip but it could have pipped up to 7 hrs before I saw it..... ho hummmm haahaa.
Congrats!
I have my first pip in my quail eggs. but OMG that pip is TINY and you can barely see it! I looked for pips and saw none so went to candle to see if any internal pips since I had some shadowing this morning but not quite an internal pip that I could tell. go to candle and notice the...
awww poor baby! One of mine got pecked in the head this year from another girl in the broody's box but broody was doing nothing. I removed that baby, the one that hatched right before that one that was outside the nest box wandering alone and remaining eggs. I decided that chicken will just...
