Hi. Just wanted to update that duckling # 1 is thriving and sadly duckling #2 did not make it. It had signs that the egg wasn’t turned properly and it would’ve likely struggled if it had lived. I learned a lot from the experience and I appreciate all of your help!
Thank you. I dropped them off yesterday with their new owner and she had supplies for the little one. She said it may not make it but she’ll do what she can. She mentioned that it may be blind in one eye and said that the egg wasn’t turned properly. How she could tell I don’t know but she seemed...
He ( I think) made it overnight. Still weaker than the other chick was at this point. And much smaller. One eye is weird looking but I’ve wet it with warm water and will continue to do so. I’m hoping the little one gets stronger.
Yolk thing whatever all it was dried up and he has a dried up...
I have it layered with paper towels. Poor thing is hollering away. I imagine everything will dry out in time. Hopefully it can absorb what it needs to and tthe rotten smelling stuff doesn’t harm it. It’s one of the worst smells I’ve ever smelt 🤢
The goo is still slightly attached to the egg if that helps. I have the duckling inside a bowl so that it can’t crawl around. I thought if it was to drag its belly around it might start bleeding or something. It is becoming more lively.
It hatched out while we were away and I came home to a yucky yolk sack. Looked slightly busted. That explains the smell I’ve been smelling when I open the incubator. It was strong. Still alive but looks weaker than the other chick did at hatch. It was trying very hard all day to get out so maybe...
No progress from yesterday. Every now and then some chirping. I can see breathing. I was not able to see veins but I couldn’t really see anything. I have the egg at work with me and baby chick at home with a camera so I can keep an eye on her😄
It’s still working on it. I am concerned with the smell in the incubator though. I feel like it’s starting to smell rotten but I know for the sure duckling is alive and moving so I’m unsure what that’s about.
Okay. Thank you. Hopefully some progression by morning🤞🏼Their new owner is ready to take them in but just waiting for the second one to finish up 😊 I’m pretty sure it’s to early for imprinting but this little one think I’m momma. She’ll instantly go to sleep when I let her cuddle on my neck.
I...
Thank you! I’ll get it set up in the brooder after work today. I have a new piece of office decor lol a lovely incubator sitting on my desk. My boss comes in “What’s that noise?” 😬😆
Ok thanks. It broke through the membrane at least 24 hours ago. Maybe even more. No zipping yet. Only the hole I made. Still some movement this morning. How long do you wait to assist with the shell if they don’t unzip on their own?
The duckling that has hatched is a loud little thing. Chirping...
Does this seem pretty normal? I’m still monitoring. I cannot see veins. I feel like I may see yolk but it could just some goo from the egg.
The other egg is still alive. I can see the duck’s shadow and its breathing. I can see the shadow of its entire head. I hope it has enough air through that...
That’s sad. It’s hard to see them not make it. I’ve always said I like animals more than I like (most) people and it breaks my heart 😢 I only have the two ducklings left. The one exposed and the one intact and rocking. I could still see veins on the other one yesterday and then it internally...
This is the more active duck.
When I put the other one back in the incubator this morning, there wasn’t any membrane around it beak, and it was chirping some. When I went home at lunch, it was dead. I don’t think it had been dead for very long. I was contemplating just going home and saying...
Here is the link to the second duckling. It was not originally internally pipped. I assisted due to the membrane becoming dried out. I’ve since moistened what’s left. The other duckling is more exposed and you can actually see a lot of its feathers and a wing, but it is still in the egg. I feel...
