That's the only potato sprouts coming up after I put 4 new bags of soil in the bed a while back. The gray pot is my oops my bad, I got busy doing something else and forgot I had put the seeds packets in there.
In winter you can put the hot compost in the beds and cover them with black plastic to get it to break down faster. Also if you need to top it off from one season to the next, you can use a half and half mix of top soil and compost.
Gotta unload the 5 bags of soil I just bought and get some on the potatoes. I noticed that they are starting to come up so now I gotta get them hilled. I'm really hoping for a great crop of potatoes. I also bought some spaghetti squash and watermelon seeds for the garden.
I managed to get some dandelions from the front yard and put them in the big pallet bed with the potatoes. I have some squash starting to peak through the soil.
This is my first time growing kohlrabi so I honestly don't know what it tastes like. I read somewhere on here that it can be eaten raw or cooked but it tastes better raw. I think.
That's the small bed. I didn't plant all of the seeds in one area but my girls decided that I didn't plant them right so they had to fix it for me 🤣 🤣 🤣
I went out and finished filling up the stairstep bed then I planted broccoli Brussels sprouts and peas. I also planted some squash I just put them deeper than usual. In the small bed I put radishes.
I'm wondering if anyone might know of a way to color wood naturally without chemicals or paint. I know that you can color eggs and cloth using herbs and onion skins but how do I make it water resistant. If anyone has any ideas let me know please. I'm always open to ideas.
My strawberry plants did okay for the first time I've been able to get them to grow. I got probably about a pound to pound and a half but not all at the same time. It was really nice though because I was able to eat some fresh strawberries from the garden. I went to the nursery and forgot to ask...
I will definitely be posting about my experiments as well as the results for all. I tried growing/ strawberry plants for years and until last year I had no luck with getting some strawberries. Last year was okay but not prolific so I want to get a different area for them. I did get a couple of...
I don't know if I have tried to use the toilet paper roll method but I am going to try it just to see if it works out or not. I'm an optimist and tend to try whatever I can to get some seeds started. I think I tried the egg shells and got nothing from it but it's still worth trying because I...
This is the garlic that I started in a jar of water. It aided in 10 cloves sprouting. There is one green top that's 3 cloves but I am happy with it. I'm hoping that I get at least 10 heads of garlic. The problem is that I will need to plant about 100 cloves in order to meet the needs of my...
I have tried so many methods of seed starting but everything seems to start great but then often die before planting season for me. I had some citrus seeds growing great but then I went on the truck with my husband for like 3 days and poof everything died. I realized that it wasn't because of...
Using plastic to go containers is something I am going to try this year for seed starting. I also saved a plastic container for a meat, cheese and crackers tray. I'm hoping that this method will work better than just going straight into pots. I'm also considering using toilet paper rolls. Cut...
I bought miracle grow potting soil and thought about starting some seeds but it's been rather cold here so I might just wait a bit longer. I didn't realize that it wasn't seed starter but I can always just go get some more from a different store.
