😁
Absolutely, the first step is to test the reaction of the pendulum on yourself and other living, verifiable beings. I may have tested some of the chicks but I don't remember. I've been mostly scrutinizing their physical differences.
I'm pretty certain she is a Cecelia/Well, Sir baby and...
Okay I've been trying to figure out an easier way to take photos but it ain't gonna happen.
There are birds from 3 hatches in this tractor. I had two cockerels from the previous two hatches but one is missing. He either escaped and got gotten or accidentally gave him to a friendly customer. The...
All the genetic diversity in the birds and egg basket makes my inner child very happy. Brings be back to when I first saw pink, green, and blue eggs from our neighbor's small flock when I was 5!
Olive Eggers have a... demographic. I think it can essentially be doubled with some clever...
You touched upon one of the goals I have for my project. One of my hens who has produced some absolutely beautiful babies with Montgomery was also the first to fill an egg carton. I dont want birds designed to peter out in two years so next year, I'll be selecting from the least productive birds...
Thank you. I think Wry Neck must be a pretty tricky one.
Oh yes, there are some very cute combos especially from Marble/Momo and Babra/Rooster
We processed 3 cockerels back in the fall, that was our first time. Well, Sir is gonna be going with our 16 Freedom Ranger Color Yields next Tuesday.
I have one in solitary confinement until processing day. He came at me one too many times.
Couple mornings ago we found Stargazer buried in the waterer. We were both upset but Tenderheart bawled his little hobbit eyes out. Sweet guy hasn't had very good luck with the birds he's nursed out of a...
LOL is it like this coming weekend for the past 100 weekends?
That's unfortunate about the little silkie. Maybe he's just in a hormonal phase (what i keep saying about Well, Sir)
They're a few weeks old now, yeah? Do they have tails?
Oh I know the feeling. We had to send one cockerel to freezer camp who was just gorgeous and funny but way too aggressive toward people. I wanted to keep him so bad and still miss him. Sounds crazy to miss a chicken that I ate because he was mean.
There was another one who was just a jerk to...
I used a pendulum to dowse my eggs before incubation. I've seen folks talk about it but rarely follow-up with their results. Males spin counterclockwise (electrical energy in the northern hemisphere) and females spin clockwise (magnetism).
for the blue gene, it would spin counterclockwise for...
My sweet, precious Tenderheart did it! This chick had wry neck so bad she was doing constant backflips. He named her Stargazer and we're keeping her with the dowsed batch that just hatched this weekend (I set two eggs that dowsed male with [W, W] egg genes and there are three bumpy-winged chicks...
Hahaha! Oh goodness yes that would have definitely stuck!
We lost her and their brother at about 8 weeks old while we were working out the kinks in the outdoor setup. She had a bit of a rhythm to her walk but she was getting around fine. It's okay though, things happen. Lol things happen... we...
I mean... I feel like a 3 year old playing with drafting tools and crayons on freshly painted drywall because I barely even know what a third of the jargon means. And I'm completely lost on how to describe Montgomery. Need to get a hard copy of that chicken genetics textbook.
One of the black...
They got kicked out of the laundry room sink brooder by the next hatch a few hours ago and I think they like the extra space. My partner has been trying to nurse the poor deformed one but our mentors say he looks like pig food. Everybody else is currently basking in the light. Their sleep eat...
Probably nutritional. None of her chicks had any problems in the last batch. I think it may even have had something to do with their slow development. The shrink wrapping, too, might have been because they were in lock down for 8 days.
These are the last two, from Cecelia's clutch. Don't they look just pitiful? They were just treated for moderate shrink-wrap. Had I followed my gut and helped them hatch morning before spending the afternoon out, they would only have had minor shrink-wrap.
16 healthy normal chicks, a couple...
It does. It's sad. I can still use fingers to count the number of birds we've lost but I'm committed to the farm life. My partner is the real tenderheart.
Woke up to the first of Marilyn's eggs hatched. I think it's a boy and he looks just like his daddy did. He has was born with severe wry neck and I think he's going to pass. He can't hold his head down so I'm just letting him be comfortable. I gave him some B12 but I don't have anything with...
I agree, fizzles are afreakindorable! If one happened to fall into my lap, I'd put her under Montgomery.:love
Two more from Kev-hen, one from Cecelia, and a pip from Marilyn. Better than expected.
