She seems to be getting stronger and brattier all the time. She's still not eating as much as she should but everything else seems normal. She's shaky neck pouncing on her sisters, attacking her toys...and me, her poops look much better. I'm starting to suspect that she likes the added attention...
I recently told my husband that I think I've been bit on the mouth by ducks more than any reasonable person should. He said that he suspended the number of times a reasonable person would be bitten is probably zero. 🙄 Whatever. I'm not going to stop kissing my ducks just because I get bit and...
I had been giving the girls the...darn, can't remember the brand...the one that starts with a "D", anyway, their powder with the oregano in it. I'm not sure if it made any difference with them. Plus I wanted something that had probiotics and electrolytes. I mix up a gallon jug with this Recover...
Thankfully the bite marks don't hurt. 😂 The bites themselves aren't even that bad. I will say, towards the end of her last molt when she was feeling very bitey, going to donate blood with my arms covered in duck bite marks was pretty awkward. 😂🤣😂
Quick update. I finally got the fr 18 tube to work so I'm able to make the formula a little thicker now. It seems like the thicker formula (more calories) is helping because she's back to gaining weight again. I don't think I'm seeing anything that looks like blood in her poops anymore though...
Thank you for sharing! ❤️
We do have other indoor ducks. Three of her biological sisters and one mini Cayuga. Bill doesn't really care what her sisters eat. She may peck at something they're eating but if it's something she doesn't care for at first peck, she shakes her head and is done with...
She's definitely spoiled rotten. She's been the boss of the house since she hatched. 😂 I've considered cutting the treats completely but...I don't want to "punish" her sister by taking the treats away. She's super stubborn and will likely just wait me out. It seemed like that's what started her...
These are two of her poops from this evening. The one on the towel is about what "normal" looks like for her lately. The second had a bit of the clear discharge with it and was more of a stress poop. She pooped that one as we finished a tube feeding. The normally clear discharge with that poop...
Thank you for your... everything! The Flock-recover stuff looks like it may be relatively new. It was the only product I could find last night that had probiotics and electrolytes that would get here today without me having to go anywhere. The plasma ingredient sounds kind of creepy but...
@Miss Lydia
I'm still dealing with Bill and her weight, continuing tube feedings because her weight hasn't gotten up to normal yet. That alone has me stressed and worried because it's been going on so long. She's up a pound but still needs to gain half a pound before she'd be 5% under what I...
@casportpony
With the "art" part of tube feeding, figuring out how much to feed, is the 5% of their normal weight the definite max that they should be fed or is the feel of their crop a better way to judge? I've been feeding 85-90 ml per feeding since the highest weight I ever got weighing...
Yeah, I can see the anatomy in her throat well with the smaller tube. The 18fr tube...I don't know. It seems to block my view too much and I get worried. 🙄 I haven't tried feeding her without a helper yet so I do the feeding and my helper does the holding. I sit in front and slightly to her left...
I'm still trying to trick them into eating pellet feed by mixing it in with other stuff they like (peas, fish, cooked wild rice, cucumber). They're not falling for it. I'm not sure how much of the pellet mush Bill's actually eating. I find a significant amount of rejected food at the bottom of...
I'm glad to hear eating oyster shell like candy isn't weird! I definitely think I'm getting a bit obsessed looking for other potential issues. Every time she poops and I look behind her she starts fussing and biting me. Like she's telling me to chill out...and stop obsessing about her poop...
I'm not sure if I'm overthinking some stuff and underthinking others though. Like sometimes I wonder if I should be more concerned about her poops. I keep seeing posts on here about duck poops being solid, but honestly compared to chicken poos anyway, duck poop always seems more loose...
She seems to have more energy and is slowly gaining weight. It's taken me a bit of trial and error to feel like the feedings are successful. (Unsuccessful feedings included fun things like the syringe detaching from the tube and spraying formula all over my helper.) After having my sweet little...
@casportpony
I could have sworn I saw links for feeding tubes somewhere but can't find them now. Do you know of an online source for the Fr 18 or 20 tubes? The links I think I remembered seeing somewhere, that site didn't have them anymore. Or the links weren't good. I'm having the darndest...
@casportpony
Thank you! After reading your reply earlier I was guessing you meant normal body weight but wanted to be sure. I realized using their reduced weight would probably just help them maintain that weight rather than gain anything. At least that's how it worked for me when I had some...
