I was trying to find this thread! I got snow a week ago and used the opportunity to take some photos with my spitz girls :) ! They sadly have to be contained in a (very large) run due to large amounts of predators in my area, so they weren’t able to run around in the snow for long. Although...
Does anyone else’s spitz just love to be a little parrot? I swear whenever I bend over to grab something or extend an arm out, I get absolutely swarmed by my spitz and they try to jump on me! 🤣
Photos of my three girls, and one of my chamois photobombing me when I tried to take a photo of my...
I have three pullets that I kept. My absolute favorite is my gold spangled chick. Her spangles are coming in beautifully. Her back surprisingly has good new spangles coming in despite the older feathers looking poorly spangled. She is also such the sweetheart and she loves sitting in my lap...
Thank you for the reassurance haha! Her crest is pretty nice looking and tight and I am glad she looks good as she is my only gold chick. Also, does this chamois’s crest look good as well? I am trying to see which chicks to keep and maybe breed if space and time allows. His spangles so far lean...
Update on a few of my chicks! I have two confirmed cockerels (bright red combs and wattles) and the rest for now seem to be pullets. The two confirmed cockerels fight each other a lot. I may end up selling one as there is a lot of tension in the brooder because of them.
My singular gold spangled...
Photos of my most promising colored and crested chick, pink band! I would have gotten better photos but she isn’t a huge fan of me haha.
The photo above shows her spangling on her back at a little less than 4 weeks old! I am quite excited to see how she fills out over the next few months.
Haha, I was also quite surprised at how fast these guys have been maturing as well! I was expecting to have to wait months to tell pullets from cockerels! Most of my other chicks in my batch of 9 has small horn nubs which has me worried for them all being cockerels as I can’t keep them all. My...
They are just 3 weeks old now! 1 is for certain a cockerel and another I am hesitant to say but i am pretty sure. First photo is of suspect’s wattles and the second photo is of my for sure cockerel.
I am pretty sure these two are little cockerels, their little horns are HUGE compared to my other chicks! They aren’t even three weeks old yet either!
I like the second chick’s (green band) comb way more than the one in the first photo (blue band) as it is a much nicer V shape. These two don’t...
My chicks arrived today! Sadly one chamois was DOA but the rest seem to be doing very well and are running around, eating, and drinking.
I plan on posting every other week updates on their growth! :)
Sweet chicken homestead is a legitimate place! I just had my 10 chicks get shipped off yesterday for my location 🥰 Nine chamois and one gold! I cropped out the information on the card as it has my information on it. They should be arriving tomorrow morning and I thankfully know someone who opens...
Question! So when picking the best chamois spitzhauben based on the coloring, what do you look for? I know the color (for a pullet/hen) is supposed to be an even buff ground color but what does that look like on a bird? Is it like a buff orpington’s color or lighter/darker? If anyone has some...
I am actually getting my chicks from next year! There was one person a while back in this thread that got chamois spitzhaubens from them and they looked pretty good. The crests on roosters are messy but the hens’ crest looks good. I really like the shape and build of their spitzhaubens though...
I just ordered 12 Spitzhauben chicks for next spring! :celebrate:weeI have been looking at this amazing breed for such a long time and I finally found a breeder! I am getting 9 Chamois spangled and 3 Gold spangled.
I am really hoping for a small amount of cockerels as my neighbors would kill me...
