I still have a little silver sebright rooster needing a new home! He is roughly 4 months old, he crows, he struts, he owns the coop! all 1 1/2 pounds of him =) not looking to sell just needs a good place to go! Pm me if interested!
I'm sure this question has been asked before but does anyone in the pella area have fertile eggs? Have a broody and wouldn't mine trying to hatch a few..don't care too much on breed it's more for fun for our boys!
Well gee I never even thought to check there duh! My husband is the one thinking we need some turkeys but we're about to have our 3rd little so I think I've convinced him that we should stick with chickens for this year =P
We are looking for some as well. I found midget white poults on CL for $10/ chick. The only other place I've seen them is the theisens in Coralville lol the feed store waid we cold order them but you have to order 20!
Any of those 3 would be great starters! Seeing as how our winters..Most especially this one..are quite cold I would research on breeds that are hardy in the cold. Ones without very large combs that are prone to frostbite and such. We usually order hatchery chicks in the past but we're lucky...
My littles catch alot of those as well for the chickens and there were tons of them this year! I actually found online where I can get 2000 for around $12 our local shops sell 100/$5 so I may go online instead of that and petco. I have don tons of research and am all set up, it actually seems to...
Maybe I will have to try that! Someone just suggested to me to serve the chickens warm oatmeal before they roost, im thinking with the windchill predicted for tonight that's not a bad idea! Wishing for spring...again!!!
It hasnt occurred to me to buy crickets! In the summer we have so many around we dont mind sparing a few for the cheeps and our little guys love catching bugs for their chickies =) im just going to break down and drive to des Moines, I want to get my mealie farm started! Wow I never thought id...
Well, we drove around Pella last night and nobody has them so I reckon we will go to dsm...my husband needs no excuse to stop at bass pro and menards =)
A friend of mine gave us her 4 hens as her coop wasnt really winter friendly, they all have frosbite on their Combs, so what does gangrene look like now that I need to watch for it?? All of our hens have pea Combs so we havent had to worry about it...granted it hasnt been -20 or more until this...
So sorry for your experience! Good intentions huh!! We debated on doing tylan but want to expand our flck and didnt want to be dosing them evertime it flaired up...in case our main hens do get it...how often or if ever do the symptoms flare up?
I am glad to hear your flock was ok!! That gives me hope. I feel like ive been staring out the window watching for any sneezing all day =S we ended up euthanizing the newbies when my husband got home..which was sad but was the only choice we really had unfortunately..live and learn! I never got...
