Eric, you said the poultry plunge is rescheduled to this Saturday, the 16th? Is that correct? I haven't heard anything other than what you said here. If it is.....what time?
Thanks!

I guess they knew the place to be, Eric! Kinda like Dr. Doolittle? Wow, do you think they belonged to that wood duck family? 13 ducklings? I should tell my husband about them, he LOVES wood ducks. The only thing is that we live in the middle of DNR ground that has three ponds...
Welcome, Jim!
Wow, sounds like a full life....that is wonderful. I grew up on a dairy farm so I know what hard work it is and it never lets up.
I'm from northwest Iowa and kind of new to owning chickens. You can see in my signature what I have.

So that Buttercup is a rooster? Would he mate with large fowl chickens? And if he did, what would you end up with? Large fowl chicks or banty chicks? I would love to have a rooster that crows out here in the country.....but I don't want a bunch of bantys in my flock, they just...

So I best be getting him registered? Things tend to slip my mind since I'm off work for the summer (lunch lady)....you'd think I was on vacation or something....
I'd better dig up that pamphlet I saw it in or just go ahead and call the extention office.
We have something going on...
What darling pictures, Amy!! She is a doll!
Eric, I see that you are putting on a chicken learning session for 4H. My oldest son recently joined 4H and wants to show chickens, eventually. Not this year....too soon. He'll probably be coming to your session, as far as I know now. He is...

Sorry, Eric, but what are you hatching there? I was missing off of BYC for quite a while so kinda missed out.....if you don't mine re-explaining.
My broody hen is still sitting on her turkey eggs and a few chickens eggs. I can hardly wait 'til they start hatching! This is our first time. It will be so much fun watching a mama hen teaching her babies.
I won't be keeping the turkeys, they'll go back to the nice lady (boxermom) who...

Well, I am downright appalled that they haven't read the instruction booklet!!!!
lol...
Well, that's kind of the way I've done most things with the chickens is just do it and hope it works out so I guess I can do it with these too. But since there's a frost warning tonight, I...

No, I haven't had them with the old ladies. We haven't handled these chicks like we did the previous ones so they're very flighty and not used to us. If we took them out to spend time with the old ladies, I know we would not be able to catch them to put them back. We could put them...

Yes, they are feathered out basically, except I didn't want to put them out there yet for fear of disturbing the broody.
So now I will put my thinking cap on to think of how I can put them in the coop and keep them contained from the rest of the flock. I am running out of room!
Hmmmm....I just realized something.
I have ONE chicken coop. In that chicken coop is a broody hen with eight turkey eggs under her.
In my basement are four rambunctious RIR chicks that are about 6 weeks old.
On May 24, I have four BO's and four SLW chicks coming.
Now how am I going to get...

I am happy to hear it passed for you, although that does sound awkward what you must go through each year....
Black Cochin Bantams, GORGEOUS chicken there!!!!
Bad news: I saw a coyote in broad daylight not too far from our acreage, this morning.

Thanks for the generous offer, but I'm thinking that between the BO's and SLW's, I should end up with a rooster somewhere. Besides that I live clear over in NW Iowa.....that would be a hassle for either of us to get together.
Thanks though!
