I got a goose egg today. Some of the pullets were checking out the nesting boxes and also a few of the Muscovy hens were peeking around at the nesting boxes as well. It looks like spring might actually be on the way at least according to the poultry. I let the goats outside to run and play...
I got 2 eggs yesterday. An olive and a brown. Was kinda shocked to see that they had laid any eggs at all with the blizzard and snow in the barn. The got the highway back open around 11 am yesterday so my Dad finally was able to make it home. I need to take some photos of the huge drifts...
Stay safe everyone. Some of the drifts out here are as tall as me. Had to walk through waist deep drifts to get to the barn. It even snowed inside the barn when I opened the door to feed the critters this morning there was a waste deep drift on the other side of the door and snow blown all...
It's getting really nasty out. I can't see the farm next door right now through all the blowing snow. All the critters are locked up in the barn. It's gonna be fun walking through all the drifts to get down there for the evening chores. Stay warm and safe. My family in Kansas City said it is...

"Ears perk" Turkeys? I need a turkey. A hen. Or two. I have two toms and a hen. I think I might have problems with that ratio. Anyone know where I can find one?
I'm not sure where to find turkeys at this time of year. The tom I have I traded another guy a hen for last summer as I had...
It's a balmy 7 degrees here and the snow has started falling from the skies. Spent some time looking over the chicken catalogs and planning out this years chick order. I'll also incubate some of my own eggs later when it warms up and I start getting some more eggs. It should be fun this year...
Have a happy new year. For some reason my emails of new posts quit working so I didn't think there were any new posts on this thread. All the poultry are out and about having a blast today. They think it is spring. The Muscovies were checking out places to start nesting. Boy will they be in...
It's pretty windy here. I left all the birds inside the barn today. The snow is blowing all over the place across the fields so in some spots there is just grass and in other spots there are some snow drifts forming. We only got an inch or so of snow or maybe even less. It's hard to tell...
Wind has really picked up here now. Less than an inch of ice/snow combined so far. Everyone is tucked in the barn now. They put themselves away 'cause they didn't want to be out in the nasty winds. The dog wanted out to potty real fast. It took a bit of pushing and shoving to get the people...
It's been raining here most of the morning. Now it has turned to sleet and snow flurries. So far we can still see the grass though. The critters have finally decided to head for the barn. I let them out this morning and the Muscovy ducks were having a blast playing in the rain. No blizzard...
I posted a few photos of some of the flock members at Flickr today if you want to look at them. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31269254@N04/ The Muscovy I took to the show don't look like show birds any more. They've been splashing around in the muddy puddles in the pasture.
Sadly, Pepper...
We're home The ducks are happy to be back. Yankee looked like he was telling the other 2 drakes I left back at home that he was back and he's king. The 3 hens were flying all around the farm like they were happy to be out of their show coops and acting like, "Why, walk anywhere, when we can...
Time to pick up the birds and bring them back home today Maybe I'll see some of you there today. I saw some really amazing birds there. Congrats to all the winners. I love the turkey that won champion turkey. If I am here next year and nothing happens to my Royal Palm turkey I'll show her...
When would be best time to be there tomorrow for the birds to get tested? I see they are open 4:30 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. for birds to arrive. I was going to wash the birds tonight but am really thinking with it getting so cold overnight I won't wash them until tomorrow morning. Then I will blow...
Riverside would be the closest Casino. I'm showing 4 of my lovely and beautiful Muscovy ducks. The chickens I wanted to show were starting to molt so I didn't enter any chickens. I started to enter the turkeys but I didn't think they would like being cooped up in a small pen for the show...
I'll be at Iowa City also. I'm not bringing any birds to sale though. This week should be fun as we get ready for the show and give bathes to the show birds.
