Welcome to all the "new" Iowa people! I'm not on here that much but feel free to message me. I live in Des Moines and right now have 42 eggs incubating. Jersey Giants and green egg layers plus two duck eggs =)
I will be throwing some Jersey Giants in the incubator soon. The resulting chicks will be blue (black hens, splash rooster) My rooster is a good sized bird and VERY good to his girls. He has a good temperament with humans too.
I bought ten and won back my $10.
Probably won't be going to Waverly. I have my obedience classes on Sundays - well not mine but for Tucker the trouble maker. I can mind when I want to =p Also the price of gas is getting redunkulous and I have to save up money for summer when I don't have a...
I live on the Southside over by the airport! Southside PRIDE! and all that. The cheapest place to buy chicken food around here is Shoppers Mart on NE 14th clear out just past the interstate or Theisen's clear down on 65/69 just into Indianola. No one really has cheap feed though anymore. I...
I would not be surprised if you sell any quantity of eggs to strangers then you would have to follow USDA rules. My guess is they have to be graded like store eggs.
My ducks actually went in the coop by 5:30 all on their own, now I know its yucky out - they never go in the coop unless I force them - even when it is raining or snowing. Apparently WIND is the key factor.
Note to self: Buy wind machine to facilitate getting the ducks in bed at night.

The black headed whites? I have heard that too. I am hoping to get some like my pretty blue fawn this year. Not a stitch of white on her head or body and very even color. Not sure what color to breed her with though. I haven't seen any drakes that look like her although I have one with the...

No mules here - we only have the scovies. I had to go check for eggs just in case.
What did you cross? I'm assuming the drake was a scovie and the duck was something else that lays more year round?

Exactly - I get charged for "testing" my birds at the Stuart swap everytime and they even sign off on the testing document. They have NEVER had a tester when I have been there ( just 3 or 4 times)
Oscelola is the other auction I go to - they have a tester probably every other time I'm...
