Nest? What nest? Mine lay wherever they please... usually right in the middle of the run. But they do have a little area between two tree-roots that they sort of turned into a nest, and they like to lay there sometimes.

Check out the article ... post 31.
Mine did great during 2 weeks of -35F weather... no losses, and no extra heat.
Oh... and there's a chukar egg in here...

I posted the article in the other thread, but I'll post it here, too... everything you need to know about chukars.
UC Davis article on raising chukars
My box was just on the ground. They will not lay until the season after they are born. They lay them anywhere they please, and I...
My chukars had a wooden box with straw in it, and were fine down to -35°F all winter... As long as they're fully feathered and full grown, they do GREAT in the winter.
Is it just my computer then? When I click on the "Partridge" link, nothing comes up, and it says "done" at the bottom... no pictures, no words, no nothing. Just the nav-bar on the left side.

For me it's the other way around! But I think they both do well in captivity and are easy to raise.
Of course out of the 10 types of partridges we have-- I like Roul Roul partridge the best.

Oh dear... don't tell me... another breed to fall in love...
Ah... good to know. Most of the people asking for the Huns are dog trainers... I think I'll stick with the chuks. They actually let me pick them up from time to time.

Yep we probably do. Characters too. Yes, those are Huns.
Do you prefer one over the other? (Hun vs. chukar) I'd like to try raising some Huns next year, but I'm sure that I am out of space...

meet Chuck. He follows me around like a schoolkid and talks to me constantly.

Do we all have a Chukar named Chuck?
Very beautiful photos! What are the non-chukar partridges... hungarians?
I raise mine with my chickens as well. The chukars prefer to be outside, and leave the coop to the chickens. If you handle them a lot, they are not as flighty, and they can be very personable. They do REALLY well in the winter time, which is why I like them so much.
