I think that's wise. Any loose seeds will probably germinate next year and if you remove them right away you should be able to eradicate it completely :)
I don't know for sure but I would not let the chickens root around in it just in case.
Gramma Chick- it is a hallucinogenic and in sufficient quantities can kill. Apparently teenagers have experimented with it with unfortunate results........:(
Nothing wrong with a mixed bag! I have several old ladies, everyone's molting but only 1 broody :)
My new girls are fitting in nicely and I have been moving the 'roos into the new, larger bachelor pad - so far so good.
I will have 1 'roo Welsummer x Breda who needs his own flock. Picture...
Good Gramma - all in working order now. How are you doing? Any flock additions this year?
I added some Breda chicks hatched from my girls and sold a few of them. Of course, I now have more boys.......
TSC management are hard on their workers. We have the exact same problem here, when I asked they told me that they are full staffed! They have 2 folks running a shift - that's not enough people to be efficient nor is it fair to the staff. :(
You did what was best. We all have done it at one time or another - it's never easy and nor should it be. When you can cull birds/animals and feel nothing....then give up.
Highly unlikely. They probably have been incubating the virus for a few days and now you are teh (un)lucky recipient of 2 sick birds.
If you have a huge amount of land you could always build another coop well away from your present flock, but the potential for infection is still there :(
I believe you can order Mille Fleur D'Uccle banties from my pet chicken sexed.
Anyhoo, welcome to the flock! Chickens are the best psychotherapists ever!
We live near Penn Yan, about a 2 hour drive from you :)
