    NY chicken lover!!!!

Ok, so now I have another type of bird to look up. Maybe a new favorite? Who knows. My current favorites are the Ameracuanas and the EE's as well as the Jahurns. In all fairness the Red Stars should be my favorites as they are sweet birds that cause no troubles, have a high feed to egg...

Yes they are. Smaller birds that lay a large white egg. First out of the coop and last in...every day. One is so brave that she pushes the wyandottes out of the way at feeding time. Ha ha on the wyandottes - they are my bossy birds!

All my hens were crowded outside the coop doors where the snow had been shoveled and the dirt showed. Only the Norwegian Jaerhons venture out in the snow. The game birds and ameraucanas in the second coup were up visiting the house this morning. :-)

Sorry to hear of her passing. @ Tabs: I haven't been on in a while, but I know the struggle and support your brother had. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi All! Trapped a mink 4 weeks ago after it killed my one and only rooster, Henry. (beautiful lavender ameraucana from mugsmagee) Hen sitting on eggs and crossing fingers that they hatch. Awfully cold out there. She started with 12 eggs and has kicked out six so far. We will know for sure in...

Rancher: Not sure about Renee. Haven't heard from her since she wanted to sell some project ameraucanas in the spring. I also wonder how she is doing. Hey, good news....I finally got my compost bin up. (It's the little things that matter, isn't it.)

Tabs: She may have sold them off at this point. These were when she was working on a barred ameraucana project. Unfortunately the barred gene is linked to leg color and it has not yet been discovered how to get the slate legs with the barred gene. My girl is not barred and has slate legs and...

These are project ameracaunas from Renee in Syracuse. The secret source of my bright blue eggs that occasionally make it into my customers egg carton. They always look to see if their carton has the "prize".

    NY chicken lover!!!!

All the new coops...sigh. Our next chicken project is to remake the "old coop" which is the side of the llama barn that was the grain room. Needs new floor and some new wall boards. Also we would like to add another pasture in back of it so those chickens can still get out on the days they...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi everyone, Computer died so was off line until we bought a new one. Sue: love your raised beds - way to repurpose old horse fencing! Story: Birds went nuts yesterday and four got out. Amazing since the fence is board (almost 5 feet high-we used to have a llama) with chain link buried...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hope everyone has a great memorial day weekend. Chicks came and were very bright and alert upon arrival. The dog stuck her nose in the box that they came in and I thought she was going to snuff all the bedding contents up her nose! Off to work.

So cool about the bees. Wish we were ready for that project this year. Duckling is so very sweet. :-) Awwwwww. Moved the month old babies out to the coop after making them their own pen in one section of it. Of course they fly up to the top of the three foot fencing and roost there...

Hope everyone does well with their current hatches. The robin babies make chicks look even cuter. We are working on lawn and garden in between ten hour work days and on-call. Tired doesn't even come close - as I am sure Tab's would agree. Should have chicks arriving tomorrow, Friday or...
