They don't get too big, the boys top out around 8 pounds usually, only a little over a pound bigger than an Ameraucana. They usually look heavy and squat because they have very loose feathering. I love bearded breeds, almost every breed I'm working with this year is bearded! lol!

Possibly, when I get over there to pick up birds I'll take a look. I swore to myself I wouldn't do waterfowl this year because of all the projects I had going on but how bad could some bantam ducks be? In other news, blue salmon faverolles eggs I had shipped in from Texas hatched. I...

Sounds like a wonderful area! although I don't think you will notice much of a difference in your tick population after you get chickens. I keep chickens mainly for eggs and for exhibition. I have kept guinea fowl in the past, which I do believe (at least in my case) made a different in the...

premade Sheds can make some great coops! I find if you need more living space fast, sheds are a great option. It's much faster to build a foundation and slap a shed on top than to plan and build a coop from scratch. Simple alterations like linoleum floor, ladder style roosts and egg crate nest...

Oh, and hatchery Brahmas aren't usually any larger than your standard chicken. You would have to find a show breeder if you want truly large brahmas, although show birds are not as productive layers

my Wyandottes and brahmas have all been wonderful. I've had silver, gold and blue laced red wyans. The roo in my avatar was a splash laced red and he was always very courteous and wonderful. I've had buff and dark brahmas, adore the dark variety the most, I think they're beautiful. My wyandottes...
