I never told her not to buy...just to take precautions if she did. Not promoting a double standard at all. I sell birds and I'd never advise someone to take them home and just dump them in with the birds they already have anymore than I would do that with a new bird. I have too much...

I'm not telling you not to get them just letting you know there are some risks when you start adding birds. Yes, Renee has silkies or at least she did.

NPIP does not guarentee healthy birds. It only tests for two things usually and I think gives people a false sense of security.
LOL!! Okay.... sooooo, I could do just as well with a CraigsList silkie breeder? BUt what if I buy them, they act fine for two weeks... and then I put...

You should quarentine them in an area not close to where you're planning on housing your chicks if you decide to get some.
Buying chicks locally is not a bad idea all the time but there are precautions to take. I sell my extras at a local poultry auction. There is nothing wrong...

I know Diamond makes TOTW but are you sure they make Nutro brand also?
I feed TOTW....I used to feed Diamond Lamb and Rice which they ate well, but they eat much less of the TOTW so even tho a bag costs more so it pretty much evens out as far as cost.

My dad is the chicken guy, but he is only really familiar with how a few breeds should look. We did spend quite a bit of time in the poultry barn. This year, they had much better looking birds than in years past. I think the last three or four years have been some of the worst. This...
