I managed to get a cold and haven't been out enjoying the weather at all.
I'm so sorry about the turmoil in your life right now. Whenever people ask me what's new or what's going on and I say, "Nothing really," they give me a pitying look. I don't need their pity; I like it that way!
Hmmm, I've never heard of Milky Spore. I googled it and I think I'll try it. We usually rely on the "pick them off" method of pest control, but it doesn't work with squash bugs. We've tried neem and dish soap and other natural remedies and it barely makes a dent.
Good question! It never fails that DH is at some weeklong out of state training thing when things go wrong.
Old Sophia has picked now to go broody. It's not so bad, though, because she keeps the eggs warm and they don't freeze before I get to them.
The reason no one can tell you a specific breed is better than any other is because they all have their own quirks, and what I like, you might not like. I got into chickens by accident. A boy who was living with us while he finished high school bought his girlfriend a chick and her parents...
Happy New Year, everyone! I'm way too far behind to try to catch up. I hope everyone's year is starting off well and only gets better.
My crazy birds must love the cold because the nine of them are laying 4-5 eggs a day. Not that I'm complaining.
I wish I could take one, but no roos allowed here in town. My SS hen is my favorite bird; she has a great personality.
All of you slogging around in mud and whatnot, please be careful!
My girls are finally laying regularly and we're getting 2-4 eggs a day from our 9 hens. DH thinks because...
I am so, so sorry for your loss Danz. My special dog died some years back, and I will never get over it. In time, though, you can remember all the good stuff without bursting into tears. It's such a special thing to have a creature like that in your life and I'm sorry you're going through this.
You should have taken a picture of them to share with us!
Yes, I hope we all have a better year next year. There's been enough injuries and sickness and loss of animals.
I can't remember if you have a light in your coop. If not, it could be that your hens aren't getting enough light. I...
Thanks for posting the gorgeous pictures! I'm glad you're feeling better and back here posting. I'm sorry about the Aracauna, but glad the goats and London are doing so well.
It's a dreary, dreary day out there today. Good thing I don't have to go anywhere!
I'm sorry about June. I love my EEs; they have such nice personalities and gorgeous eggs.
I think different birds take different amounts of time before they start laying? I'm not sure of that, but it seems like I've never been able to come up with a certain number of months that I could say...
I'm sorry about your hen, Jessi.
The first time I had to get rid of a roo, the only place I could find was a neighbor of my neighbor's sister, so we didn't know too much about the home. I cried all the way home, because there were about a dozen roos in their barn and I was certain they had all...
It looks great!
We run one of those heavy duty orange extension cords from the house to the coop. DH has a heat lamp clipped where the birds can't get on it, and the waterer is underneath the lamp. Except when it's REALLY cold, the water stays nice and liquid. There have been times I've had...
That's great news!
I'm sorry about the hawk. It seems like it's often our favorites that get hurt or killed.
I don't know about goat's milk, but then, I don't like ANY milk. I do love goat cheese, which is what I would make lots of it I had a goat.
Nothing new here, really. It's been...
TaraBella, that's so sad. I get upset when people get animals and have no real understanding of them, and no commitment to taking care of them. Even if they're a creature you're going to process at some point, they still aren't just expendable. I think it's a very good thing they dumped them...
