I use straw over the top of the mud during the winter and then in spring shovel it all out. I live on clay soil, so I just have to build a substrate of straw to keep the birds up off the mud. I have done this for 40 years with no problems.

Yes, they use licenced judges there. Showmanship in California assigns 10 out of the 100 points to the quality and condition of the bird . if you have a non Standard bird because of color or type you lose 5 points right off the bat.

Not a problem tj, the safest thing is to check with the Fair you go to. Some don't use real judges so you could show anything that looks like a chicken.

I am a poultry judge, white is the only accepted color in Seramas. If the fair doesn't want non Standard birds, a Serama would be only okay in white.

I have brown red oeg bantams, Nankins only come in one color but two kinds of combs. Rose and single comb. They are somewhat rare. None of mine are laying yet. I have single comb.

I have white Leghorns, Ko Shamo's, Sumatra, Modern Game, old English game, Nankins and Dutch bantams. The new APA Standard will be out in February, so you should be able to find used Standards online after it is announced. Walt
I will be showing some Ko's in Modesto, but I had not thought about bringing any for sale. If you are interested contact me a bit before the show and I will see what I have that I will let go.
We are looking at an entry of 3500 to 4000 birds at the PPBA Show.

You will very seldom see Orientals in the sales area, but some times people will sell them out of the show cages. There will be some Ko Shamo's for sale.
