    Ops, Missed that question.... I don't see why laying it on its back or side would hurt anything. Its not good for anything that uses liquid to move heat (fridge or heat pump) but this should just use electric elements so it should be fine.

    As for a fan, I would buy a 3 or 4 inch desk fan an run the wire threw the hole in the bottom that the probe for the thermostat is ran threw. Then make it plug in separately or wire it to the 2 main wires between the switch an the thermostat.

    That 7th pic is the thermostat... You have two wires coming in. Block an off white. There the main, one goes threw the switch an one or both threw the thermostat. Then it goes in to the wire buss (flat thing with the screws) an that splits power to to different locations. I assume 2 heaters...

    The wiring pics are a little to close to get an over all of what does what? How thick is the walls? Looks like the heat element may be in them. What is behind the cage in the top?
