I have two Black Roos who come from a good line, have nice type- but their eye color is a light brown rather than the reddish bay color. Is there anyway to breed this out other than start over with new stock?

Thanks you! I kept wondering if I was just imagining that unique crow. But after 100 times of hearing it I know it is different. Now if I could only place that western I heard it in LOL! Citygirl, isn't it nice to not worry when you go into the coop and you can just stand and watch and enjoy...

Thank you very much. I am enjoying my Ameracaunas more than I ever thought I would. The Roo (I call him Bart after "BlackBeard) is so very gentle and protective. I never have to worry when I go in the coop. He will call all the girls to him until he is comfortable. I use the coop (it's big) for...

Do Ameracauna Chicks have white soles on their feet or do they become white as they get older? Also, their shanks and down to their toes--are they fully dark slate at hatch or do they darken up I know the toenails are white. Thank you!

Quote: Yes- he's from Tailfeathers eggs. If you breed blue wheaten to blue wheaten you get some splash wheaten. It's not an accepted color though. But- I have a bunch of wheaten girls for him- so all the babies will be blue wheaten. (I'm really liking the regular wheaten more though. The BW...

Quote: HappyMtn thanks you again! That is exactly how I did my hatch. The BC Marans were just popping out of the shells along with some misc chickens. So when the eggs never pipped externally I panicked at was sure they were stuck. I was wrong. They had internally pipped though-and I thought...

Thank you both very much, that is exactly what I needed to know. May a ask what humidity you incubated at for days 1-18 and then at lockdown and if what temperature your incubators were running at? I am having horrible luck and don't know why.

Can anyone tell me if Ameracauna eggs typically hatch by day 21 or do they take longer? This last hatch, everyone else was out already and the Ameracaunas had only internally pipped, not externally. Anyone?

pips&peeps : I keep my humidity at 45-50% through the first 18 days then bump up to around 60%. These birds are going to be hard to hatch because of the inbreeding going on. The original set of them had to come from a brother/sister mating since none of the birds were exhibiting the silkied...

Thanks Steve, I have read that post. What I am needing to know in general is: What is the best humidity for days 1-18 and then at lockdown for these eggs.
