When you cross with another color to improve type and size do you run into the problem of leakage later even if you choose the chicks that appear the right color? Do those genes hide sometimes? I just recently started seeing the breeders here telling people to cross colors and then get back to...
I wish I would've ordered wheatens too. I know his son has had great success showing his wheatens. It's frustrating when you are serious about learning to be a "real breeder" but some of the best stock is being kept by those breeders and only offered to their buddies. It creates a catch 22...
No these were hatched from huckleberry farms. I'm sure there is a beard there, its just a lot slower filling in than my older birds from another breeder. I was a little concerned at first since like you said compaired to the other line they hardly had anything.
I'm wondering about the single beard gene I've seen discussed here. Will these birds possibly be beardless or have small beards? What age would you know if your birds beards are not going to fill out? My older birds have huge beards and muffs while some that I hatched from a different breeder...
Some of my girls finally started laying. The top right is from my Wheaten Peachick lined girl. I was not expecting it to be so dark green. The bottom ones are from my blue girl. The top left is my Welsummer pullet.
Does anyone know Madelynbelle personally? I've been waiting ever so patiently for her to come back online to see if she's getting eggs yet. This is going to be my last attempt at wheatens. Unfortunately I'm thinking seriously of abandoning them entirely and going with cream legbars.
This is from the byc member that you had a bunch of problems with Bobbi. I don't know if you remember that conversation. I had 4 hatch. 2 dropped dead at a week old. One looks good and this one has yellow legs...
I am selling this as an EE. I need some opinions on gender. It has a lot of girly tan on the body, but the hackles are coming in dark. The comb is small like the sister's but pinker. It also has thicker yellow legs and the sister's are smaller and slate. So I'm going back and forth on this...
That's good to know. I learned my lesson about rehoming young chicks my first hatch. I regret it now. I planned to grow this guy out anyway, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of some future feather color issues that should be nipped right now.
I had one of my blues that looked like it's first feathers have some barring too. I was going to post on here to see what everyone thought of that but then I decided to wait to see how they grew in later. Has anyone else had experience with early barring, and how did the feathers end up looking...
I noticed one of my chicks isn't growing any tail feathers. The rest of his feathering is normal like the other chicks. They are a couple weeks old and all the other chicks have tails. He's not being picked on or anything. I watch them all the time. You can see a little pointy bone...
These are the very first set of Ameraucanas that I hatched. They are about 4 months old. I know they aren't perfect but they are a bunch of clowns and I love them just the same. =)
