I accidently saw a video (you know how the video will sometimes start as you scroll down) someone had posted the other other day showing the 'ginder'. i knew it but didn't need to see it.......
Good to hear. Hopefully 'he' is a she, you've got to get some good luck to counteract the bad...
That is one of the issues with these hatcheries. Half of the time they don't even seem to know. It took me a while to realize that the difference between a hatchery stock of a certain breed and a breeder quaility of the same breed is night and day! The RIR are a perfect example of how...
I just got my Paul Smith Lavenders settled in. I can't wait to see how they fill out. They are so sweet, and mild compared to the Lavs I already have. Big fluffy muffs and beards. They are two weeks old and one of them is already looking and acting rooish! I am hoping for 2/3 numbers so I...
Yes the Am's do seem to have such sweet personalites, my Rocky (Wheaten) is a doll, even broody as she is now. My EE's go from super aggressive (males) to curious and smart, my fav is a red and blue EE hen named Scarlett. She is a ballsey little thing that took on a full grown hen at 4 weeks!
I understand the frustration with this breed LOL. Most of this thread is dedicated to telling newbies that their 'Americanas' are EE's!
I have both full bloods and EE's and each have their merits. I will continue to raise both simply because I enjoy the breed and plan to play with the...
My guess would be if you bought them from a hatchery/feed store that you have Production Reds (great layers) and an Easter Egger (also great layers). Unfortuantely most modern hatcheries have gone quite far from the true characteristics of most breeds (most feed store employees don't know any...
My guess is #1 #2 look to be pullets, but the bottom chick has dark feathers coming in on his hackles.
I would give them another week or so to feather out a bit more.
Thanks! That's what I thought, but it kind of stumped me. I am glad I chose Lavs, I have some EE's in with them and the EE offspring is black! It makes it so easy to know which are full blood!
Is it normal for Lav chicks to have a bit of yellow fluff? Both roo and hen are nice Lavender color with no leakage.
The pic was taken on day 2 it is 5 days now and its muff has filled out nicely so far.
Awesome! There actually IS someone that ships hatching eggs!!!
Note to self: "Focus Tara, you are already adding 3 breeds this year"
Self Answers: "You already have Ameraucanas so technically this doesn't count as another breed. It's just hatching what you already have!!!."
OMG why are you so far away! I haven't seen or even heard of this color locally!! Do you breed your buffs to him for OE's or keep them pure?
I don't know why but this is one of my favorite chicken colors.....forget white LOL!
You're not the first one to be duped. It's a shame that hatcheries and even some breeders do this. There is so much misunderstanding and confusion. Do some research on what color you want and keep your eye open here on BYC for eggs and/or chicks.
There are some definite advantages to EE's...
