Kathy... thanks for test hatching for me 2x. There is much work to be done on these...getting clean hackles on the
boys w/ solid tails and nice solid color tails on the girls. All of mine have had muffs/beards, so happy I don't have to have to deal
with eliminating this recessive. My main focus...

WOW!!! Just wow! The "blue wheaten" cockerel may have slate legs, but his coloring is WRONG. The "blue wheaten" hen has green legs in addition to her color being wrong and type...ugh...just look to her posterior. And the "wheaten" roo has wattles, hardly any beard, and what's with...

Jeremy, thanks for posting these....always fun to see how they are turning out.
You got these from cherylcohen, right? I think that puts them between 5 and 6 months
old. Are they laying yet? If not, probably any day now.

I am so not surprised! They are a broody bunch I set eggs a couple of months ago from the non-broodies hoping
to get some that are not so prone to this. Now a few of those non setting pullets have turned broody
The plus is that when not broody they are great layers year round...

excellent WMR!, do we know which Rooski made the final cut of the "bachelorettes"? was it #4?
I am excited for ya, like the way you do your thing, congrats!
@ Luanne- THANK YOU!!! I'm VERY excited! I was going to wait a bit to set some, but then the first one I cracked WAS...
I have noticed these are better on "technique" than some of my other breeds.
They seem gentler but spend a little more time doing the actual deed. Now I'm
talking seconds longer...but still....they are good lovers for sure in the chicken world.
Pretty egg that you posted. They do seem to get...
Cari...will give you my 2 cents for what it's worth.
I too like Blue #4 the best. He is looking good for size and I like his solid black tail and the fact that he has some black
showing in his beard already...some can take forever to turn black. I like his tail angle/top line in the third pic...

Jeremy...I am so glad that you are enjoying them! The boys seem to be as friendly and sweet, if not more so, than the pullets/hens.
Last year I let one pen that all went broody together hatch and raise chicks in the pen ...and my patriarch roo Ranger was as nurturing
and good with them...
That is TOO funny about your maternal two month old!
I have one broody that will sit on top of the other hens when they are in the nest box to lay,
with her wings spread over them. I guess she is pretending they are her babies

5 of 8 pullets are broody?!? Wow! lol
The cockeral I have from you has got to be THE single sweetest bird I have ever met. And he has yet to even attempt to crow! I love these birds, large, full beards and muffs, bluer than blue legs, and sweet as can be! They are just pain awsome...
Hi Cheryl
She's right on tract for laying. Mine start between 18-25 weeks with most laying around 22 weeks.
They go broody a lot. I just had 5 of 8 pullets go broody the first two weeks they were laying.
All but two snapped out of it pretty quickly when I took out the golf balls and kept...

As bummed as I am, I am really glad that we can tell right away when they are chicks and that 'easter eggers' are... well, branded. If that makes sense. Some breeds, we don't know until they are older sometimes.
Have you asked the breeder about these? The solid black chick is most...
Awesome! I have had a few issues with these, not major and will not disclose unless via PM or email in respect to the original breeders,
but they are for the most part very SOP with good egg color. Eggs on the 4th gen are looking more rich and vibrant than their parents.
At this point I want to...
Cheryl, when some of my second gen showed the darker body splotches I was weirded out.
Now that I am on the forth gen I have learned to wait to the 20 week point on color, and at
this point they have all colored out well, nice solid slightly darker wing triangles and creamy wheaten body color...
That would be me .
I have stated in my auctions that I have mainly been working on size and type,
but have made some progress in getting more black in the tail on the females, and less black
(clean hackles) on the males. ...maybe that is what you are referring to .
I have seen a lot of black...

Illia, a compliment from you is the highest praise ever!!! The best thing about these (other than they are jump on your back friendly) are they are very productive. I am averaging 8 eggs a day from 11 pullets/hens.
They (the pullets) have been laying since October. The hens have laid 10...
