I have Olive Eggers that are from white Ameraucana x Welsummer/BCM. They turned out silver birchen or all black, which led me to believe that my white was split to silver based black. However, the feathers have a green sheen, and not purple. I do think that nutrition can make a difference...but...

You know, it took me a while to figure that out...and by that time I had found and planned to ship a white cockerel from Idaho (a nice lady here on BYC offered him to me). However in the meantime I had gotten a re-homed Splash cockerel, huge with gorgeous type, that I put with the girls...

I had managed to get a white cockerel for my white pullets, and then a terrible thing happened: my dog got a hold of the largest girl and killed her. She had gotten out of the run. The dog is a young GSD and she's being reformed. In the meantime, I took my pretty Estelle's last egg and incubated...

Some day, it would be nice if projects and mixed color Ameraucanas were called something other than EE, since EE also covers those birds that are mixed from many different breeds, one of which somewhere down the line was a blue egg laying bird with muffs, beard, and pea comb. I think the fact...

Since white is recessive, the chicks will be white splits. If I breed them back to white birds, 1/4 of those will be true whites and I can go on from there. He was still charging and attacking me this morning (no red dress), so I picked him up and carried him around for half an hour. While...

Ack! A dilemma. I have come across my first aggressive rooster. It is a real surprise as he seemed very easy going up until a week or so ago. He's a splash Ameraucana of excellent type, a big, heavy boy that I really want to breed. He doesn't get along with any of my other roosters...no big...

Is his breast black or brown? A brown/red should have a black breast. He looks like a brown/red to me, but it depends on whether he has a black breast. He also should have a crow wing, not a duckwing (brown flight feathers). The true test would be to breed him against a brown/red female and see...

You might have some luck if you look up bird shows and meet ups in your area. Because some people come from far away to show you may be able to find someone who is planning on attending who can sell you birds or often birds brought for showing are sold there. Just a thought!

If I were you, I would use both. I'd like to see if you could hatch sons that compare to dad with the leakage type-wise, but without leakage. All it takes is time, right? And all you need to do this is a pen to keep the extra roo in while the other takes some time with the ladies. You give one...

Interesting! So that's why when I used the calculator it showed splash x recessive white = blues.

As soon as I can, I'm getting some hatching eggs from Brian Parks. He's a great guy, he doesn't charge a ton for his eggs (although they aren't ebay low eitther) and his birds AND his egg color are up to par. His web site is down but you can contact him through his FB page...

I know a bit more about Marans color varieties than Ameraucanas, but I'll give this a shot because I don't think when it comes to color genetics that it's all that different. What you would have if you crossed your wheaton with a blue is an Easter Egger. Yes, it's purebred Ameraucana, yes...

That's what I was saying! But since it was clearly an affectionate kiss instead of "I'm going to eat you, yum" I allowed it. Silly puppy.

My White Ameraucanas are so sweet and personable that I've decided to breed them along with my Marans projects. They will invariably jump up on my back/shoulders when I go into the run and perch there. I picked up a Splash Am rooster because he was available and am now in search of BBS hatching...

I've heard you should wait for your pullets to lay 20 eggs before setting any to hatch. It sounds like this might have been possible for as long as these pullets were laying. Should you wait longer in the case of Ameraucanas? I have pullets that have yet to lay their first egg but it would be...
